Everyone knows that total yardage is an incredibly stupid way to ascertain the effectiveness of a defense, since not all defenses defend the same number of plays. Besides - it's not yards that matter; it's points. So, here are the SEC defenses ranked according to points per play given up:

LINK

Mizzou (9)
Bama (13)
UF (17)
State (19)
A&M (32) [giving up considerably fewer pts/play than last year]
UK (35)
Vandy (41)
UGA (46)
LSU (47) [giving up considerably more pts/play than last year]
Ole Miss (57)
UT (61)
Auburn (66)
Arky (69)
USCe (74)

Edit: The number beside each team is the national rank. For more detailed information, clink the link.

Points per play is arguably a worse stat because it doesn't take into account where someone starts with the ball.

they are looking for something, anything, to prove that LSU and A&M will trade places. They want to be LSU in a bad way. It's pathetic, to say the least.

So ranking is more useful than an actual stat?

The ranking is a ranking of the actual stat. If you want to see how many pts/play each team gives up, just click the link.

This, however, does not take into account how abysmal our special teams have been. Scoring drives have never been more than 65 yards.

So all those garbage-time points scored by Nevada and Ball State are important IYO?

Yes another obvious metric showing Chavis is great that LSU will deny deny deny. Keep on burying that head in the sand.
