I was fighting a losing battle. I went down with my ship but I found some drift wood and went with the current to the nearest landmass

I absolutely do. You're an LSU fan that's been letting MSU fans ride you bareback for the last 2 weeks. This thread is pointing out AU's inconsistency over the last 11 years that includes 3 SEC Championships, 2 National Championship Appearances and 2 undefeated seasons and a crystal trophy.
I was merely complementing MSU on their actual consistency over the last 75 years.
YOU don't get it do you?

No, you didn't.
You made a bet, one with unequivocal and unambiguous terms, and subsequently and immediately reneged.

I'll keep our bet, just wanted to start this one thread

It is odd, and Auburn AD has no patience for one bad year.

The entire premise of your thread is wrong.
Since the middle of the Pat Dye years, they've had an outstanding season followed by two or three mediocre to poor seasons. Including the last few years of Dye, the cycle's been repeated across 5 different head coaches. They're the very definition of consistency.

No is the answer, when they are picked high they disappoint. When picked low they surprise.

Wouldn't that be the definition of inconsistent?
Not if they are consistently inconsistent.

Last time they were Preseason top 10 and finished equal or higher was 89. So they should hope to be unranked preseason.

who cares, 3 SEC, 1 NC, 1 Heisman, 2 undefeated seasons (has LSU ever had one?)

Honest question, how old are you?

You have to go way further back than just 2004.
They won the SEC West in 1997... had losing seasons in 1998 and 1999... but then won the West again in 2000.
Before that....
They had losing seasons in 1991 and 1992... but then went 11-0 and finished #4 in the country in 1993
Before that....
They had losing seasons in 1980 & 1981... but then won 4 SEC Championships during the next 8 seasons
It always seems to be a roller coaster for them.

So... In 11 complete seasons they've had 2 bad seasons ('08, '12) and 3 mediocre seasons, 6 good seasons... including 2 undefeated seasons, 2 national championship appearances and 1 year where they were robbed of going to the national championship.
That's bad? Aside from Florida, LSU, and Bama who would you argue has been better? Ole Miss? FSU?
Ohio State has been more consistent. I guess USC had a good run too. So they're maybe #6 in college football over that time?
And there is an argument you could move them up a few and push Florida, USC, Ohio State, and maybe LSU. frick man, actually no. They've been pretty damn good in that time.
This is coming from a HUGE LSU homer.

Agreed. Many programs would kill to have 2-3 losing seasons if it meant they could also be in the National Championship hunt in December in 2-3 years as well.
Here is how the programs stack up since 2004 in terms of Appearances in the AP Top 25:
1) LSU- 175
2) Ohio State- 165
3) Oklahoma- 163
4) Oregon- 148
5) USC- 146
6) Georgia- 139
7) Alabama- 138
8) Florida- 131
9) Wisconsin- 127
10) Texas- 126
11) Florida State- 124
12) Auburn- 116
Not great, but not that bad either.
If you look at only appearances in the Top 5 since 2004, they rise up to #9.
