Of course Republicans are moving away from being conservative on most all issues. We really are a one party govt now.

I have to respectfully disagree. IMO part of the problem with government is you have a bunch of extremists on both sides representing what is largely a moderate public as a whole.

I think George Washington was right, he said the party system would destroy America. I think it would be better if everyone voted for the person, not the party.

Right idea, but I think wrong diagnosis of the blame. The blame are the extremist that vote and the over sensitive reactionaries that make up both sides. There's simply no room for reasonable people in our current climate. It's perfect ethos or frick that RINO/DINO. Perfect is the enemy of good.

That's what they want you to believe, but the "moderate" that is sold to the masses is well-left of center.

Before the second debate, CNN had a short program on about Reagan. I didn't get to listen to it, but I watched it. In nearly every photo of Reagan, there was a picture of Tip O'Neill. I'm sure they were trotting out that old tripe about how well Reagan and O'Neill worked together and that those were the good old days when every body got along.

That's a crock of shite. There were 7 government shutdowns while those two were battling it out. Maybe after hours they were friendly, but they were far from it in Congressional battles. Sausage-making is ugly, and there is no way to get around it except capitulation, which is exactly what the Congressional Republicans have been doing.

Remember what the Senate Democrats did to Bush's judicial appointments throughout both terms of his presidency? Sheer, unadulterated obstructionism. Just think if the Republicans had tried that. You would have thought that the sky was falling.

Remember the last 2 years that Bush was in office and the Democrats had both houses of Congress? Democrats set a record for cloture votes. The Democrats would have howled to high heaven had Republicans tried that.

Democrats want everyone to work together when it suits them, and accuse the Republicans of obstructionism and uber-conservatism when they don't, and the Democrats have the media in their back pocket to assist.

/off soap box

*For the record, I think both parties are culpable for the shite state of affairs of our country.
