Could The Republican Party finally be taking on the conservative mandate they were elected to initiate?

Good, he's been worthless to any conservative movement.
Of course Republicans are moving away from being conservative on most all issues. We really are a one party govt now.

No. It's impossible to farm votes without "putting fertilizer on the crops." In our failed two-party system, the one that stops giving away taxpayers' dollars will become extinct very quickly.
"Conservative mandate" only applies to hot social issues. Every politician is a liberal when it comes to fiscal issues. Republicans know that being socially conservative and fiscally liberal will get them re-elected. Democrats know that being liberal across the board will get them re-elected.

At least he can say he helped shut down the government. That was a real high point for the country.

That's probably about right. Their pension is based on their highest 3 years salary and years of service. He's got about 25 years, which probably wouldn't got him to the $100k mark but he's been speaker since 2011 so his highest three years will be based on what he made as speaker (about $220k).

The fact that politics is a career choice is the root of america's problems. Everything else stems from that

Not likely, our leadership is going down the toilet. I wouldn't be surprised if a liberal got it.
