Speaking of Lamar Jackson,
Oh, and Traveon Samuel, another true frosh which did pretty dang good tonight, came from Phenix City.

After seeing what Lamar Miller or whatever his name was did to us tonight. I'm fearful for when we face Dak Prescott or LSU's qb.
We recruited the guy we faced tonight pretty hard so there should be no excuse why he ran all over us

The next quarterback our defense faces will not have 4.4 speed. The defensive pressure was there, the damn freshman was just too damn fast. You have to give the guy credit
I wish we had him

My thoughts:
-JJ is colorblind. Only explanation for those shite passes into triple coverage
-Barber and Jovon will duke it out for #1. Roc still too small
-JJ needs to grow some balls and lower that shoulder and pick up those 1st downs
-Defense is still shite without Lawson
-For the love of God can we find a LB that knows how to contain the outside edge?!!! F@ck!!!
-Punt game much better
-I love seeing man to man and not letting teams dink and dunk us to death
-those orange cleats and socks, burn with gas!!!

We could have but we were recruiting him at Safety.

Your logic evades me.
You think because we recruit a guy we should know how he will fit into a game plan, and we should shut them down?
Some real stupid shite right there.

My Take from this game is montravious is a beast, Peyton runs like tre, JJ makes some forced stupid throws and we have some big time growing to do. Glad we have a cupcake next week, sad it's an early game, it would have been my only tailgate of the year. With good luck our one month old(at the time) will make the bama game

Yup, It would be like facing Nick Marshall and not being prepared for him to run.
We should have known if Lamar Jackson got into the game to contain him because he was a run threat.
What about that do you not understand?

I predict Louisville is going to tear the ACC up and were all going to feel better. Nothing necessarily gained but nothing lost
Louisville was a damn good ball team in my opinion

We won't know what we have until the LSU game.
Of course, everyone on this board will be optimistic and say JJ just had first game jitters and that they'll be gone in a couple weeks...blah blah blah. It's pretty evident that the success of our offense will depend on him passing. So if he doesn't improve dramatically, stick a fork in us. He cannot run, and we won't be successful just running the ball with PB. We need another dimension on offense to be successful. We didn't have it against UL, and got lucky to win.
We also need Carl and Tray to find their way back onto the field. Our defense got tired from the offense going 3 and out consistently, but another large factor of our defensive collapse was their absence. We need them back, and in a big way.
The fact we have a cupcake next week may be our saving grace. If it allows the appropriate players to heal, then we can be real for the rest of the season.

WTF? They never named a starting QB and had 4 guys competing for it. Pretty sure no one thought true freshman Lamar Jackson was going to be the guy. Also, when is the last time you've seen a Petrino offense running a shotgun zone read every play? How about never, so I'm fairly confident that wasn't in the defensive game planning focus. It's hard to prep for unknown.

Gus said himself ALL week that we were preparing for all 4 qbs. Gus himself should have known Jackson was a runner because like I said we recruited the guy for the better part of a year to play qb / safety.

We were very involved with his recruitment....
I'm surprised we weren't better prepared for him running since Gus said we've been preparing for all 4 guys.

A lot of his big plays were passing plays where people were covered and he tucked it and ran. Dude is every bit as quick footed as Nick. You just have to tip your cap to a guy who plays as well as he did.

AUtigR24,
Mind if I quote you? As an Auburn man I think these are words for me to live by when it comes to football.

I would hope our coaches are capable of reading a team and understanding what we need to prepare to play against. If our coaches overlooked the possibility of him playing a zone read (something we're familiar with and recruited him to do for us), then wtf?
I think UL found an offensive identity tonight. They can string up 8-ish wins if they develop to run that zone read effectively.
