I would hope our coaches are capable of reading a team and understanding what we need to prepare to play against. If our coaches overlooked the possibility of him playing a zone read (something we're familiar with and recruited him to do for us), then wtf?
Do you remember teams game planning for Nick Marshall? Sometimes the player is just that good.

Yes you are. Auburn just played a team with a top 10 defense last year and an offensive coach that threw the kitchen sink to beat Auburn, and we led the entire time. Not all of the west can play Mcneese State and have their game cancelled. It was a humbling game that gave us useful film. On to the next one.

Was impressed by the D...things changed when we lost containment but nothing too crazy it seems. JJ will get his act together he was just forcing things IMO. Have to remember Louisville has a very talented group on D. Gus didn't call his best game

It was confirmation that he was trying to be the all-star everyone predicted him to be instead of just doing what was necessary.

FWIW, here are my game thoughts. Skip if not interested.
To start with, our tailgate was the bomb. shite was awesome. It was the second time I have been involved with Southern Tailgate Traditions out of Starkville and it was just the shite. Hate it none of you stopped by or called. We had everything.
We had second row seats in section 140. Right where the Cheerleaders were and yes to the few of you who texted me, I was on TV a few times. fricking embarrassing.. The crowd IMO was about 60/40 or so. Cards fans showed up and made some noise.
I read a lot of your posts here and I feel a little different than most. I think the guys played well until the 4th other than JJ's bad decisions. He threw a few balls up for grabs and I did not think he would do that. I am not worried about him, I think it was nerves and him trying too hard. He will settle down. I just hope Tiger Stadium is not too much for him. If the JJ for heisman will die, he will settle down
The offense looked almost exactly like I thought it would earlier in the preseason and got chastised for. JJ is no running QB. Without the thread of him running, everyone else will have to be much better. The line, the blocking on the edges and the backs. Not sure still how good that will be. Its going to take some time.
Peyton Barber showed up. Knew he would. He is a straight forward runner who is not afraid of contact. He by far was the player of the game. He made some great blocks, runs, caught a pass and even tackled a guy after one of JJ's int's. He looked great. Roc on the other had was exactly like I worried. Spinning and juking around with not as much production to show for it. Our offense is more of a straight ahead down hill running game and not sure he can do that. 25 or 29 will be the guys who handle the heavy load
The defense looked good to me. The guys up front were very aggressive and got plenty of penetration, and the secondary stayed with the bigger receivers for the most part. They were challenged and stood up. Lots of new faces in there and they made some plays. Not sure what everyone was expecting with this being all very new and not really knowing what Patreno had in store for us. That QB for the Ville is going to be great. Not sure we were expecting his running skills. Opened up some plays for them
Did not like the play calling for most of the night. Right down to the last play. Not sure what we were doing there. But we won. Too many deep throws to guys who were not open when the ground and pound was doing pretty well. Jeremy needs to pull a few and make a run or two. That would help
I know it looked bad in the last quarter but it was very good early. Louisville is a good team with some good talent. I was stoked that we shut them out for a half and had good control early in the 4th. We let them make it interesting but that just seems to be Auburn right now under Gus.
I like what I saw. We will get batter and our defensive front will be very nasty by the middle of this season. Sooooooo much talent.

I warned everyone that we would have some bumps. So many new faces, and everyone was expecting us to be in NC form.
ETA:
And they have some highly recruited guys on D. Add that to Todd G knowing our O. Keeping it in perspective, we never trailed, and lead by 21 with 4-5 minutes left in the game.

You didnt have to warm me. I was worried about the JJ hype train. I said we would miss Nick for a while and it is true. JJ will be strong but people should not have expected him to come out like a heisman candidate.
The defense for the first three quarters was as good as we have had in a long time. I was very satisfied. \
I have been more worried about the offense than the defense all summer. Too many new guys on offense for it to gel right off the bat'

Yea OK. He has never looked comfortable running the ball at Auburn and I dont think he ever will. He will be effective in the red zone and on short runs at times but he is not Nick Marshall or Cam Newton and never will be.
It will effect our running game so Gus will have to work with that.
It was easy to see last year but people just dont want to admit it...

I was defending Braden. Also from a reliable source, the personal foul on the bench was Grimes telling the side judge, "if you call that shite again chicken fricker, I'll whip your arse right here in front of everyone."

You serious Clark? His play calling didn't do shite. Unless by play calling you mean putting in a fast QB and saying hey just run around and make 7-8 guys miss on every play? They were getting shut out while he was still calling plays
His play calling was the only thing keeping a very aggressive, opportunistic defense honest. They drove down the field when our defense had to react rather than attack.

Johnson had two nice runs yesterday... the touchdown and a 3rd and short run up the gut.
no ones said he's cam or Marshall, but he'll be effective.

Agreed. JJ has talent, and as he gets more comfortable he will make batter reads. Our DLine is infinitely batter than last season. They're so stacked, they won't be getting pancaked very often.

Yea, if Patrino never would have changed to a mobile QB, we would have schooled them. It was smart to change things up by him. By adding the QB as a threat, it really opened up things.
Fortunately for us, we will not meet many mobile QB's in SEC play this year. WE were close to him a bunch. Jeffrey Holland came in and played well. Just missed a few sacks.

Yep... we should have gameplans for all 85 scholarship players, including the 25 guys who just signed scholarships.... including all 5 scholarship QBs.
I swear to god, some of you don't live in reality.
