First let me say, he assembled most of it and that is definitely a big part of being successful. What rubs me the wrong way with him probably makes him a good recruiter.

That being said, I just watched the UT preview and God damn this dude is corny as can be. Walking cliche. This is all conjecture and just the "vibe" I get from him. Which, admittedly, I'm about as far away from the situation as can be, but I just don't see him as a guy that is going to command much respect from his players. Dancing around, chest bumping, being "cool"...sure, but I don't see anyone taking him seriously when it's time to get in someone's arse.

Maybe I'm just used to Pinkel's substance over style approach. I think Butch could use a little more meat and potatoes and a little less night club weight lifting sessions.

Just one mans opinion.

Sounds like Kevin Sumlin. But the players still know who is boss.

The talent that we have this year is almost all courtesy of Butch Jones.

Except Butch isn't grossly overpaid.

Butch is a braying arse. Watch the end of the Florida game last year to see his true colors. Jumping around and screaming like an a-hole and getting his players to slap the ball away before it got snapped while Florida is in a victory formation.

And I acknowledged that...his hokey persona seems to play well on the recruiting trail. I just don't see it playing well in the locker room and on the field.

Butch is a fat lesbian PE teacher masquerading as a HC, Pinkel's corpse could out-coach him.

CBJ is corny as frick, but to write him off as not having any substance seems premature. The players seem to have a lot of respect for the man. Former players, media personalities, etc. have nothing but good things to say about him as well. You can be a player's coach and still demand the respect of your team.

Mack Brown could recruit all world talent, spout off cliches year after year, and convince everybody he was a better coach than he was.

I think a lot of people were dumbfounded to find out Les' coaching style during our practices when it went on the SECN. Everyone just writes him off as a dumb CEO style coach who says and does dumb things...but the guy knows a ton about the game and is a hands on teacher with any position. Goes a long way with the players IMO other than just "being cool" all the time.

Substance...

I agree. I was watching that, too and I like Les' coaching style.

He's corny and affable but still would command my respect.

Butchy is a coach who screams at asst coaches and gets in players faces...although he doesnt get the Muschamp treatment from the media. Thats not the way to conduct yourself on the sideline....berate your asst coaches in private...not public.

Muschamp was happy as hell to win at Knoxvegas and he said it best when asked by sideline reporter after game what the victory meant to him...he said he enjoyed watching all the UT fans leave disappointed...so I guess he wasnt too thrilled with their conduct?

Didnt anyone hear? They beat Vandy, USC and UK for their 3 SEC wins...wow. They havent done jack. It will be my pleasure to watch the game and listen to quietness of the UT hillbillies leaving Ben Hill Griffin aka the Swamp.

I'll be the first to admit that Butch is a walking cliche. Sometimes I can put up with it and then the majority of the time I just zone it out. I agree with you whole heartedly on that part.

But, the guys players love him. All those kids talk about wanting to go to war for him and getting out of this shite tastic 7 year slump and back to playing to be in the conversation for Atlanta.

He catches a lot of shite on here and a lot of it he deserves, but I think he will turn UT back into a strong program. I'm not saying the guy is going to be the next Robert Neyland of Phil Fulmer by any stretch of the imagination, but I think going into year 3 we will start to see the fruits of his labor and have a successful year.

Ultimately my feelings on the guy really don't amount to a whole lot. Just win

Get ready for a lot of "we're the youngest team in the country" excuses.
