When you grab your guitar, what is the first thing you do? Chord? a little run?

The very first thing I always do every time, is the little intro to Bob Seger's Night Moves. If that sounds right, I am good to go.

I tune it then run some Family Tradition. It's a fun and easy song to get warmed up.

smoke on the water because it's the only bass line i know.

then i hit some C, G, F, and D cords because they are all i know.

then i put it down and hope nobody saw and/or heard me.

I usually just strum a G, or hit a little blues/minor scale run. Kinda boring I guess.

Blues in B, Little Wing intro, Yellow Ledbetter intro, some scales.

That always seems to be my pattern.

don't start on a cheap piece of junk, get a pretty good one, get yourself a tuner, and start studying how to cheat.

gonna take part of what I said back, I have this epiphone DR 100vs that I keep inside my truck, it's a cheap piece of junk, it is subjected to extreme heat and cold at times, but damn, it stays in tune. Its a sunburst and looks great too, its a 100 buck guitar

I pick it up, grab my pick, crack my knuckles, then sit down and realize I have no idea how to play it.

Yeah, actually. I like Ralph Stanley, among many others. I love attempting to flat pick, but I need to practice more. My favorite is Doc Watson.

You play bluegrass?

I use a thumb pick and fingers, but, I don't do it properly, according to teaching types.
I get that old blues sound that I want though, and country too.

Electric? Turn on the distortion and play Seek and Destroy or Crazy Train.

you start out in standard chords, or do the walking power shuffle type thing?
