I don't doubt that someone is claiming that.
But there is zero chance they would lock themselves into Strong for a 4th year like that with Herman waiting in the wings.

Don't be so sure, they've been the kings of dumb moves lately

The 5th guy they ask to be OC will be the one they really wanted all along
Strong was the 5th guy they offered to be HC
So that's how it works over there

Yeah they've been on quite a roll since Bama deep dicked them in Pasadena.
This would be beyond absurd, though.

Lashlee at Auburn told Strong this morning that he wasn't interested and wouldn't come to Austin to see him
So let me introduce you to the new OC mastermind in Austin, everyone wants him but Strong will get him because, well, you know, they were texass

One of the things I heard about Cumbie (not sure how true this is) is that Church, and family time is very important to him on Sundays, and at Texas they watch game film. I just don't know about going after a guy who has never called plays before, which neither Cumbie nor Gilbert really has.
And Strong is gone if he doesn't win 7 games, and possibly gone if he only wins 8 next year. I can guarantee you no one will stand for another season like the last two they've had.

Cumby turned the 1mm per year offer down, they practically BEGGED him and he still said no

For me, it's a little ridiculous to make someone who has never called plays before the second highest paid OC in the nation. Texas' biggest mistake was not firing Watson last year and trying to bring in Lincoln Riley or Tyson Helton.

My point is situation has maybe as much to do with success and failure in the coaching business as talent. Don't think of the money or job prestige. Examine chance for success. That's what opens the next door for a young coach.
Sure but eventually you have to take a risk to get the big reward. Being an OC for someone like Briles is a safe bet but it leaves people to question who really runs the offense.
It all makes me feel Cumbie got another OC offer.

Even hiring watson to coach in the state of Texas was a huge mistake. But yeah they f'd up bringing him back and then denoting him right away.

Interestingly, Sterlin Gilbert was the QB at Angelo State when i was attending. Dude had a cannon.
I saw him make a number of throws that rivaled (adjusting for a HS kid vs. a pro) Aaron Rodgers' hail mary the other night.

Quote: Jeff Howe Quote: Sterlin Gilbert, inexplicably, has turned down Texas offer to become the Longhorns offensive coordinator. The FOX affiliate in Tulsa first reported the news, which was confirmed by Gerry Hamilton of ESPN. For the second time in three days Charlie Strong failed hire someone he offered the offensive offensive coordinator position to. In both instances Strong completely and utterly mismanaged situation to a degree that is unthinkable. We'll have more later.

yeah that tweet is all kinds of messed up. Gilbert's not Tulsa's OC. He's only co-OC
