Vandy used to be a very good football program in the 1930s and 40s. They had a brief spell as a very good team in mid 1970s then early 1980s and under Franklin.
They may not field the best team but they damn sure have a lot of great academics. Once Jackie Smack is through playing football at Bama/AU/UT/UF/UGA/LSU (just name any big school) and plays 3 years in pro league...he will wind up driving beer truck with four kids at home...his 40 time wont matter...whereas Johnny Uppercrust is making six figures and vacations in Canary Islands touring volcanos.
