Just a few weeks after calling out Steve Patterson, Chip Brown is no longer the official radio voice of the UT-Austin Longhorns.

I don't think we need another Chimp thread. That guy doesn't deserve this much attention. I made mention of his firing in the other thread a few min ago. Maybe he'll just go away and stop spewing garage. I kind of feel like Ketch did. I don't think he's on the radio anymore and I cannot think of the last time he made any kind of news.

He still has connections - enough to write the article that got him fired - some of whom are big donors and politically well-traveled folks in Austin, but he's not being directly fed infomation by the coaching staff and AD like he was in the Dodds/Mack era, so yeah, it's a pretty huge fall-off.
But then again, those guys often fed him intentional disinfo and used him like a meat-puppet, so while he had a direct line into Belmont back in the day, it was often a direct line to the sewer and he pumped out a lot of stuff that was just embarrasing.

That article was pretty interesting. Chip wrote this long diatribe that basically said Patterson is as shady as a mob boss, and then wonders why he got whacked.

I think he wrote it as a parting shot knowing he was already out the door once 104.9 obtained the broadcast rigths for the Horns' games and was officially the voice of the Longhorns, as opposed to just a sports radio station in Austin that talked UT and the Cowboys but didn't broadcast games. He'd already been critical.
