Would running electrical currents through my sciatic nerve help ease the pain? I have a 4mm disc protrusion

Not sure about herniated, but physical therapy works well for my bulging disks. The only thing you can do really is build up the muscles around the spine to hold the nerves in.

never tried electrodes, just what Aubie said.
Sucks but stretch like hell, lose weight, and try to build up surrounding joint muscles.
Also, numb yourself with Absinth.

When I went to pt the currents helped, I was still in pain though.

I had a Tens device(I think that's what it's called) when I had herniated discs. It helped a little to hook it up after doing some stretches and exercises. Other times it didn't help at all. I only paid about $60 for it.
Up until my surgery, the only thing that really helped ease the pain(and a lot of mine was sciatic nerve pain) was stretching. The last month or two before I finally had surgery, the stretching didn't even help. It was sheer misery.
Best stretch I found was lie on your back, extend one leg out flat. Extend the other leg up towards the sky and get it as straight as you can, while also tilting your foot so your toes come towards your head. Put two hands on the back of your thigh and gently pull and hold it there about 20 seconds. Then switch to the other leg. I got up to doing about 5 sets of those every morning. It'll stretch out that hamstring and lower back muscles.

Surgery fixed my back but the pills ruined my life leading to heroin addiction. Be carefully.

Seems like herniated discs and other similar injuries are far more common than I thought. My main goal is to recover and get back to lifting. I'm not giving up on my strongman dream.
I've heard injections can kill the pain off for a while, do they get to the problem or simply just get rid of pain?

Just get rid of the pain. I only had 2. The first one worked for about 2 weeks. The second one only worked for a day or two.
Only things that will fix the problem is surgery or strengthening the muscles around the herniation enough to where they force the disc back in place. The surgery I had wasn't bad at all. Had it on a Tuesday morning and was back at work the following Monday. 6 weeks before I could really lift anything, and about 2 months before I had full range of motion back. Would recommend if you're a candidate.

Wow didnt know that it could push the disc back in. I will research some stretches for it and see how it goes. Hopefully it fixes the problem for good in the long run

I don't think it can push it all the way back in, but just gets the herniated part off the nerves. I forget how the doc explained it to me.

Daily lumbar decompression and physical therapy is your best bet. Find a good pain management specialist.

If the pain has been going on for 6 weeks or longer you are probably not going to be able to fix a herniated disk on your own. Herniated means the disk is ruptured allowing the gel type fluid from the inside too leak out and press aginst the nerve causing pain to radiate down your leg and can cause numbness in your toes. I had one in my L4-L5, lower back. I had a micro discectomy done. They basically clean out the gel. I had immediate relief and was playing golf in 6 weeks. That's been 14 years ago. Consult your doctor before it becomes worse. Hope this helps.
