I have 27 years of watching the gators under my belt. You can look forward all you want (and I'm glad you are) but these are likely to be dark years for the gators in both football and basketball.
Ok...I'll see your 27 years and raise you 52 years or so.
You can live in the "possible" dark years ahead, but I prefer bright sunshine. True...its been down lately and no need to rehash anything...but we have a lot of talent on campus right now and we just need to get a few breaks and avoid injuries to key players such as OL. We can win the east....every team has warts in the SEC in my opinion and a few home wins will set everything up.
UT & Ole Miss are beatable. LSU has QB issues (ditto OM, UGA, USC, girls school and if Grier can have that banner year we all hope for...then no reason to think we cant start to turn things.

Stars are nice...but they are not everything. Case in point: the San Antonio Spurs.
They don't have a team of "Stars" but they play well together. They mesh...and it works.

What was the percentage in 2006 and 2008?
While I def agree there is was a drain in talent, but Muschamp still recruited well and I think there is enough talent here for Mac to do well.

Teams that say stars are nice but aren't everything are the teams that are losing on the recruiting trail....
For every anecdotal 1 in a 100 point you make, I can make 90 others that say talent wins out.
Recruiting matters

Georgia, Tennessee, and Missouri are all better than Florida in the east right now.
Only one of those games is at home.
Ole miss returns every starter on both LOS. Against a team like Florida, replacing 8 of 9 starters on the OL and DL, that spells trouble.

Slayer....the voice of impending doom. Get some help.
Posted on 6/26/15 at 11:50 am to reel_gator8
Why does everyone say I'm doom and gloom? I'm just realistic.
I called for national titles in 2008 and 2009. Thought we'd win the SEC east in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
I just think Florida isn't as good right now. That doesn't make me doom and gloom.
Here's some positives for you:
1. Demarcus Robinson will be 1st team all Sec this year. I honestly believe he is going to EXPLODE this year.
2. I think UF has the best secondary in the country this year and will have at least 3 guys on the ALL sec team at the end of the year.
3. I think Jon Bullard is horribly underrated and will play his way into the first round of the draft this year.
There you go. Positive. Doesn't mean UF is going to win the east.

If all those happen, UF just might win the East

Slayer, Slayer, Slayer..... pray tell me what SEC east team is all that? UGA has all kind of issues and needs a new QB, UT? Please! Their 3 SEC wins were over Vandy, USC and UK...and we are supposed to be excited? Mizzou would be my choice as an underlooked team. UGA plays Bama (finally) and a strong Ga Tech team ( I know I know OOC)...UT will be improved but will lose games and they have to play Bama also. Now...we do play LSU which has issues galore on offense and over the years we have played well at Red Stick....color me not skeered. Ole Miss? They are coming to the Swamp with new QB...yawn.
Bullard is vastly under rated but not by the pros. We have a ton of talent on defense...LBers, DL & secondary. We only need offense to progress some. Dont be negative nellie Slayer, join me and the others who are believers and step into the sunlight

Slayer is being realistic.
We have the tools to do things well, but, we need to see a lot more before we can even begin to be optimistic.
Spittin' the truth, unfortunately.
Doesn't mean we can't blow it up, but we all need to get our heads out of the clouds and look at this rationally. If you were on the outside looking in, you would definitely say things are going to get worse (short term) before they get better (long term).
But, like I said, Mac could come in and light the fuse.
Money ain't on that, sorry to say.

No SEC team is all that. UF is just in a transition year. That's all.

I'm going to ask for the same thing I have the last 2-3 seasons. Competence on offense is all I'm wanting out of this coming season.
The way McElwain has recruited the OL thus far at UF shows me he is going to put a premium on that position. Which makes me very happy after WM's debacle of recruiting the OL.

Clearly, this coaching staff is far better at roster management at this point than Muschamp was. Thank god.

Are we really losing on the recruiting trail?
2010: 1st
2011: 11th
2012: 4th
2013: 3rd
2014: 9th
2015: 21st
Seems like based on that, we should easily be in the top 25 if not the top 10. But as we saw with WM, despite all the talent, he still sucked.
To me, there is no questions there have been issues - most importantly disparity in talent between offense and defense. However, there is still plenty of talent on our roster for Mac to do well. I don't think we are going to win the NC, but 8-9 wins is definitely doable unless we get a bunch of injuries on the OL.

Here are the rankings of other teams that have kicked our arse the past couple of years:
South Carolina:
2015: 20th
2014: 19th
2013: 20th
2012: 17th
Mizzou:
2015: 25th
2014: 39th
2013: 43rd
2012: 31st
We out recruited them by a large margin, but never beat them the past couple of years. Mizzou was even blowing us out the last two years despite SIGNIFICANTLY worse recruiting rankings.
Recruiting is very important. I totally believe that. But to think it is the only thing that matters is wrong.

It definitely helps to have premium players -- Alabama didn't even have a quarterback and they seemed to do quite well despite this.
Teams can do great with little talent, the problem is long term.
Texas A&M showed us that, and Mizzou will probably go down the same path if their recruiting doesn't pick up. Management only goes so far, eventually you simply need the talent at the right positions.

I would be more excited about this season if it wasnt for the inexperience on the oline. Now dont get me wrong. Mac has done a wonderful job patching up the line with transfers and JUCOs. We now have the bodies but the inexperience level is what concerns me. We could have the next coming of Danny W in Grier but if the oline struggles and he is always on his back, we would never know. Looking forward to this season honestly just to see how the line comes together and what the Mac/Nuss combo can accomplish on offense.
I can not wait to see our secondary. I believe our dline is underated. From what I have read about Collins this group should force some turnovers.

@Frank_Frangie
Finally, college teams on field Thursday. Heard that Will Grier, at 6-foot-3, is up to 215 pounds. Most interesting player in UF fall camp.
