A Southside stadium would increase attendance. Much more accessible and nicer area than Legion Field. Region Field sells out plenty of Barons games in the vicinity of UAB and not many people in Birmingham care about baseball. Birmingham is the top CFB market in the country though and the whole city isn't in Tuscaloosa or Auburn on Saturday. You put a good football product for a cheap price in the hottest area of the top CFB city in the country and people will show up. Not sure why that's so hard for people to see.
How do you propose paying for this stadium?
Donations? If so, then why not let them try.

They can't come up with the money. It was going to cost $75MM to get them out of Legion Field into a purpose built facility, fund support facilities, staff, and operations for something like the next 3-5 years. The don't have it, can't raise it privately, so the only option is for their daddy Bama to fund it or to raise it through a new bond deal.....i.e. for the University system to take on debt to support a loss making operation that attracts maybe 5-7K per game and has zero fan support despie having 22 years to show some results.

I just dropped by this thread again to say frick UAB one more time.
Carry on.
Carry on.

I really like UAB, but my kid picked it for all the wrong reasons. Dumbass wouldn't even go look at other schools. Oh well.

Actually yes most of the money was already pledged for the stadium, enough to pay back the debt payments for the next several years giving plenty of time to raise the rest of the money.
And you know that, but keep making up lies to make your side sound better.
ETA:
They average 22k per game this year. Had 3 games with nearly 30k. And in the lowest attended game of the year on a cold December game after the killing of the program was announced they still had more fans than the figure you just said.
But like I said, keep lying out your arse to make yourself feel better about it

Tickets sold =/= attendance.

You're so stupid.

Once again, and? They still got the money for it. And you really think 17k tickets are being bought and not used? you're a joke

Tickets are being bought in bulk and given away for free at gas stations to beg people to attend. Still didn't work. Nobody wants to watch UAB football.
Posted on 5/30/15 at 12:13 pm to Tuscaloosa
I know the city bought some but what gas stations were these that were giving them? I wish I knew about that.
But sales and actual attendance numbers are different and you know that. They count the number of tickets turned in at the gate to get that number.

The only reason UAB got even to a 20K attendance in a 2014 game was because they had Alabama A&M and Troy on the schedule
Posted on 5/30/15 at 12:21 pm to 14&Counting
If UAB gets an on campus facility, people will come to the game. I thought moving the Barons back to Bham would be a disaster. I was wrong. They have helped transform that area of town. I think UAB could continue that success with a similar facility.
Posted on 5/30/15 at 12:22 pm to 14&Counting
so? The only reason Bama had their attendance number is because they had SEC teams on the schedule.
That's the stupidest argument I've ever heard.
29k vs A&M. 28k vs Marshall. 27k vs Troy. 20k vs North Texas.

Why are bama fans so opposed to uab football?
Posted on 5/30/15 at 12:52 pm to BowlJackson
Bama sells out their games regardless of opponent. There is something like a 20+ year wait list for season tickets. We're not Auburn.
Our AD is the most profitable AD in the country next to Texas. This is part due to making smart business decsisions. UAB football will be a loss making endeavor now and in the future.
The alternative is to support UAB to the tune of tens of millions of dollars and create a competing program to the one in Tuscaloosa.
I don't like either alternative

I'm sure everyone has their own reasons, but most of us just are just sick and tired of all the bitching at UA. If you didn't know any better (and most don't) you'd think it was the UA BOT that killed UAB football. Rarely is the blame ever assigned to the correct person, the UAB President and UAB Alum Ray Watts.
Every thread on this topic devolves into slinging mud at UA when, so far, the BOT has steered well clear of this whole clusterfrick. This doesn't even involve UA in the slightest, but rival fans here are all too happy to muddy the water and stir up shite. Just read this fricking thread and ask yourself why UA fans are responding the way they do.

I think we can all agree that the whole situation was handled poorly. If handled differently it would not have been as big a deal

I donated $50 to the UAB Hospital back around Christmas and have probably donated more to UAB than 90% of the a-hole UAB supporters on this board.

Because UAB beat Saban and he still loses sleep over it. He's convinced all the Bama fans that while they can rule the SEC, UAB threatens their place within their own state.
