This could be the year for UGA to make some noise. If they beat Alabama, the spotlight will be on them all season.

I mean, I think most people are aware that we've underachieved a little bit recently, but at the same time I feel like you and maybe some other fans of rival teams are quick to point out the failures while completely ignoring any successes or bad breaks that have gone agaisnt us. Winning the national title takes skill, along with some luck. The more times you put yourself in the position to win, the better results you will have obviously, but sometimes it just takes one play to go a different way for a completely different National Champion.
And as far as the academics go, I know the majority of the Auburn fanbase didn't apply to UGA. Personally, I actually liked Auburn when I visited and would have gotten instate tuition. All that being said, it's a little ignorant to say some fans aren't a little butthurt about not getting into UGA. It's way worse at Ga. Southern, but it still happens a little bit at Auburn.

Agreed. Georgia was only a play away from making it when they played Alabama in the SEC title game. I feel pretty confident they would have killed Notre Dame.

It's not. It's funny...there's a ton of non-UGA fans who say that "this could be the year", but every UGA fan I know says it'll be a few more years.
we're solid across the board, except QB, which is pretty important. I'm hoping to win the east, but to think about us being in the playoffs right now with our QB situation being what it is is insane.

I agree. It's too bad that Hutson Mason didn't have one more year.

As weird as that sounds...

If we draw a boundary that includes the state of Georgia and all bordering states (except North Carolina because basketball state yo), here's a list of the teams that have won national championships more recently than UGA:
UF
FSU
Miami
Georgia Tech
Alabama
Auburn
Clemson
Tennessee
The only P5 teams inside that boundary that have not won a championship more recently than UGA are Vandy and South Carolina.

I mean, the same thing applies for yall against FSU. I believe yall were fortunate to make it there, but if a couple plays had gone different then we would be talking about Auburn winning two national championships in the last five years.

Yikes, that hurts.
Not really, we've been better than a majority of those teams over most of those years except for the year they won their respective championships. We're consistently good. Just haven't got over the hump yet.

Lol at you being better than the majority of those teams. Most of those teams have won or at least played for multiple national championships since the last time you played for one

In the ORIGINAL POST of the thread UGA does not have half as many as the fifth place team which is UT.
In the post the gump tried to use as a "gotcha" to Auburn, Auburn is tied for 4th and only two away from being 2nd with an undefeated season in there not even accounted for.
My post had nothing to do with UGA and more to do with calling out a terrible flame attempt at AU.
I understand it's been a long 30+ years for you but try not to get so sensitive next time.
The Bama fan was clearly talking about 1990 to today. I think HIS point was that Mr Tee was using an arbitrary year (1982) so he decided to use an arbitrary year.(1990) I mean,seriously...you are going to post and reference the original post of a 13 page thread and also a post on page 11 and not make it clear? Seriously?
Have at the Bama fan if you want...but for Auburn fans to call out Georgia? Not a leg to stand on.

It was clear in the first post I made. I understand what his point was. My point was even in his arbitrary year to try and make AU look bad they have been the 3rd or 4th best program in the conference, which for AU is nothing to be ashamed of.

I agree it's unnecessary to re-hash the OP point again but if you want to go there there isn't a UGA fan alive who wouldn't trade your last 33 years for Auburn's.

As a UGA Alum who got his undergrad in '75 & his MSA in '77 & has had season tix since '79 (35yrs) I can assure you are dead frickin' wrong...

Agreed. A half-dozen SEC teams could have whipped that ND team.

So you wouldn't trade zero national championships and two conference championships for 7 conference championships and a national championship? Thanks for proving once and all that your fans really are morons

I agree there as well. If the fake punt had not worked or if Mason had not scored so quickly. Again, that is not an excuse, Auburn had their shots and fell short when it mattered. Likewise, I still think GA would have been national champs if they had gotten past Alabama.
As far as this year, I know it seems like Georgia fans think a lack of a qb will hurt them, but there are more teams in this spot in the SEC than not.
Georgia defense is a different beast now. Chubb will be a back breaker. Hands down, they should be favorites in the East. Get to the SEC title game and they will have a shot (very likely to be a rematch of a game they played earlier)

It's a big "IF" for us to beat Alabama. BUT, if we could it could open the road for Auburn. I figure it is between Auburn and Alabama in the West this year with Arkansas as a darkhorse. LSU....maybe. They'll have to ramp up their offense but their defense should be nasty.
