Frank doesn't necessarily agree with his firing.
quote:
Martin said he would explore adding Grant to his staff if Grant does not take a head coaching job and has interest in being an assistant at South Carolina.
"When he makes a decision in his mind whether or not he takes a job -- obviously he has to have a job offer first -- and if he decides I'm not doing that and we get deeper -- if he's willing to come work with us -- that's a conversation that [South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner] and I need to have," Martin said, "because if there's a better human being on the planet earth than him I want to meet him. I haven't met him in 49 years around here."
Frank doesn't necessarily agree with his firing.
quote:
"He's going to get a head job," Martin responded to the question. "He's too good at what he does. The question is: Will he take a head job if offered? That's a question he's going to have to sit down and figure out. He's too good at what he does. Something's wrong in our society when people like him are viewed as failures."
quote:
"Their team won 18, 19 games," Martin said. "Their team won eight or nine league games. Their team sustained injuries [to starting point guard Ricky Tarrant and starting forward Shannon Hale] that he had no control over this year. If they hadn't sustained injuries to his leading scorer [Tarrant], his power forward, his starting power forward [Hale] and his leading scorer, who was as dynamic a perimeter athlete as we had in our conference, maybe those 19 wins become 22, 23.

Posted on 3/26/15 at 11:30 am to GetCocky11
sub .500 in the sec is not good. then again why am i listening to opinions of a coach who has nevever finished better than tied for 11th in the sec?

Never has happened.
Well, Spurrier may have agreed a few times, but the rest are way too PC to say anything but what Martin said.

What about the other 4 seasons he failed to make the dance? Bottom line is the guy was getting paid nearly 2 million a year and he wasn't winning enough. We all like the guy, but he was given ample time to build his program and it didn't work. Good luck to him where ever he lands. I hope he has great success.

We were terrible at the end of the year. No idea how we even beat BYU to be honest should have lost that one by 20+

Hopefully he gets hired for 4 years at a million per.
He's worth that Frank.

Actually you are right. South Carolina basketball is easy to overlook...and sadly they beat Alabama

I agree that Anthony Grant is a great guy and a great human being. I also agree that looking at this season alone, the numbers would not justify a change and you can blame some key injuries for our mediocre season.
But how many of these mediocre seasons with "explainable" justifications can you have before a change is warranted? Look back over the last several years at Alabama, and it is the same story over and over - if this player hadn't left the team, if that player hadn't gotten injured, etc etc.
Grant deserves respect for the integrity he carries with him and the respect brings to the program, but you can't look at his career at Alabama and find ANY sustained improvement. At all.

Who really cares what Frank Martin thinks? Obviously mediocrity is not something the University of Alabama is satisfied with--even if USCe is.
