Well sarcasm strikes again. Not formulating shite. You both had these opinions before he was hired. So there is that....

Why aren't we going to bring in big-time recruits immediately? How long will it take to bring in big-time recruits?
I'm with 808bass on this one. Good coaches and recruiters can get big time recruits at any time. LSU is a prime example. SMU got Emmanuel Mundiay. We should be able to get Tatum and Porter, but we likely won't.
The only reason we have been in the picture with these awesome top 50 guys like Teki, Thomas Bryant, etc is because of Fulford.
I refuse to take "young" as an excuse. That might be legit for non-con or the first part of a season, but by conference games you should have an identity and play together.
I have never seen a team this bad at mizzou. And I honestly don't think it is because they lack the talent. Plenty of teams don't have top 150 players who compete.
I want KA to succeed. I want our program back at NCAA levels. I don't want a bigger hole to dig out of. But I want to see some improvement, and I haven't seen any.

I'll be the first to admit that KA was no where near the top of my list of who I had hoped for before he was hired. I gave him a shot. In fact, over the summer, I thought he was doing about as good of a job as he could have done at that time. Gave him credit for keeping Gant/Wright, signing Allen/Isabell so late, landing Fulford, getting Teki.
Then the wheels fell off. He went from a B+ or whatever I thought of him in the summer to a current F. Would I have seriously considered Masiello at the time? Probably not. Do I think as far as a coach goes that he's better than KA? Probably so.

Everyone better hope KA turns this around because this could bury us for a decade or better if he doesn't
I don't know why people keep saying this shite, and that's what it is, shite. Suitcase Mike turned the program around pretty quickly and can be done again. A decade or better being buried is just preposterous.

Year 1 is already down the tubes. KA probably gets at least 3, if we suck that entire time he'll be gone. Program will be in rough shape, and candidate pool will be slim. Even if we do make a good hire, it will take him 2-3 years to rebuild. That's 6-7 years wandering in the wilderness right there. If the next hire isn't good...well, you get the picture.
Let's hope KA can somehow turn this around.

I have spoken with a couple of ex players recently. They have been around the team some. They seem to think that we haven't seen KAs system yet.
Was told he has focused on culture, working hard, and fundamentals more than a strategy to win.
Seems next year is the first year for us to see what his long term philosophy and coaching ability is really about.
Hope that they are right.

Well that's on him and that kind of pisses me off as a fan frankly. There is no reason you can't teach proper posture and the pick and roll at the same time. This was year 1, not next year. If he decided to waste it only on posture and hat wearing, so be it, but he doesn't get extra time because of it. Hopefully they all catch on quick because if next year is the first year of introducing his system, it could mean another extremely long season.

If we haven't seen his system, fire him. Not even kidding.

No their point to me was that the players either basketball skill or IQ wise weren't ready for the full KA playbook. Offensively or defensively. Early in the season he would call a play and at least 1 guy in basically every play didn't know and understand his responsibilities thus the plays wouldn't work.
Later in the season the guys were more robotic and thinking about their responsibilities, making the plays not work and look like the guys weren't exactly playing hard.
He has high ceiling players. Big he can get the basics taught to the players these guys that I have spoken to think he will succeed. If not he's probably gone in a couple years.

Then get rid of all the players and start from scratch for real. I just don't buy it. During the noncon? Sure. But they have to be the dumbest players around to not have gotten it by seasons end.
No offense. But I'm just not going to lay it all on the feet of the players. Some of it? Sure. But KA has as much ore more of the blame.

Yup, that's ridiculous. So, in this particular sense, he basically punted this year.
Umm, no

Well I think KA made a tactical error in waiting until only a couple weeks before the season to address his offense. Which had been one of the better offenses at the D2 level.
This years recruits are a little more fundamentally sound, but less athletic.

There's alot of assumptions in your post. KA might not get year 3 if the shite storm continues, nothing is guaranteed with this new AD (his record shows that). Suitcase Mike had a winning record his first year here, and by year 3 had a 30 plus win season.
Point being, I just don't buy into the "sky is falling" surrounding the program if KA fails. We have a decent basketball history, in an average basketball conference.
We all agree this season has been embarrassing and not acceptable, but I tend to have alittle more faith in turning things around instead of the doom and gloom outlook, but that's just me.

Yeah. I don't buy the "no one will want this job" argument. You pay someone $3M, they'll want the job.
Posted on 3/10/15 at 10:16 pm to the808bass
What makes anyone think we'll pay a basketball coach 3M? Not saying we won't, but that would be nearly double what we've been paying.
Like I said, IF KA doesn't get it done and IF the next hire is good we can get it turned around in 5-6 years. If the next hire isn't good in that scenario though we are easily looking at 10 years of mediocrity or worse. I don't see KA getting less than three years, but we shall see.
My point was it would be way better if KA can get it done, because if not we are looking at an extended period of sucking and I'd rather not go down that path. If KA reels of 3 years of this level or close then the cubpoard would presumably be bare for the next guy and the job would be less desirable than it was this time around.

We offered more than that in our last coaching search.

The rumor was we offered Marshall more than that. With a new AD noted for being able to raise the dough, I don't see much problem in this.

Yeah, ai know the rumor but I don't really buy it. For one, that's football coach money and secondly, that would have been pretty hard to turn down.
Like I said though, maybe we will. We're going to have to if things continue down this path, and it still may not be enough.

If that's the worst it get's that's not that bad. We'll know more next year. KA is still a big maybe.
