So... when I first came to A&M I was in Mays. I "thought" accounting was right for me. I was wrong, very very wrong. Now I have almost a year and a half left in IDIS and I wanted to know if any of you have any input or opinions. Advice would be appreciated but I feel like I am under achieving a little. I know IDIS is in the engineering school but it seems like it should be in Mays. It's basically supply chain management and logistics. Do you know any current grads or have any insight on job prospects and the overall field?

Any before any of you tell me to post on the "other" site, I just want input, not a lecture.

I'm an ID grad. I started in ENGR. It's basically the ENGR drop out. I fricking loved it. It's a well respected major in the real world. I went the supply chain/procurement route. But it's a pretty versatile degree. Sales, procurement, logistics, sales, supply chain, operations, distribution management, and sales.

What are your concerns? I'll answer anything ya got.

What farmer said. We graduated the same year. I have a buddy who graduated supply chain management. He worked for dell for a year or so then went to work for Exxon in Houston. Does great I bet he's close to six figures by now.

I think that was Looch's major.

Once the market turns back up there's a huge gap in Supply Chain jobs in O&G if that's what you want. As others said its a versatile degree.

Lucky you, a lot of my coworkers are getting out now. I can't yet because of the in-laws.

Yeah I'm fortunate the Construction company I work for is actually pretty diversified when it comes to what we do. We do have some intrest in the O&G industry but mainly in the secondary market. We do a lot of work for pipe mfgs and pipe threading companies. Luckily that is only a small slice of what we do.

It's a bunch of kids who don't know about real positions yet. They're just going off what their profs said. What position were you hiring for?

That's true. I'm not sure how many of us will still be this time next year if things don't rebound.

I'm thankful my market is recession proof.

Hospitals will keep being built at a record breaking pace as the population grows and ages.

Maybe I should learn how to build hospitals, I sure don't want to work in one.

Yeah I've heard that it's versatile. I just didn't think the salaries paid as well as other engineering degreees. Is that true?

I wouldn't want to work in one either. But selling them equipment is extremely lucrative
