I live in Orange Beach. Great place to vacation but don't move here if you are young; it's full of people over 40 with baked, prune skin and nothing in the right place. I would move to the eastern shore and avoid the possibility of ending up like the Miree kid; shot dead in his midtown home by two thugs/burglars/intruders.

If you don't want an apartment in D'Iberville I would do this. The Old Dauphin Way District has great houses you can rent and you will be 5 minutes from the bars downtown.

haha thanks everyone for the suggestions!
I am looking into all of these places right now except I think I might avoid Prichard due to the fact I am not a big fan of being stabbed, but thanks for the suggestion!

I have lived in that area all my life. I assume you are a single WASP guy in the your late 20's or so?
Check out Ocean Springs, great little town tons of bars and great restaurants. Right off exit 57 on 1-10. Lots of young professionals, more expensive than Biloxi etc but the place to live on Gulf Coast.
I live in Mobile, and people are great here but still very Cliquish. If you didn't grow up here dont expect open arms. OS has always been more open due to large military bases in area. Downtown night life is too sketchy for me but I am old. I would recommend you live in apts in Fairhope or daphne and you come party in mobile or Pensacola whenver you want. White flight from Mobile to Baldwin County is like it was from New Orleans to Covington Mandeville in the 80's 90's.
Great fishing in the area both mobile bay and Biloxi bay. Sailing is great both areas. Nightlife about the same maybe a little better in Biloxi due to casinos. Biloxi is hour change from New Orleans if that is important. Hunting is bigger in South Alabama but better in Mississippi.
Both good places to live to me. Could be a lot worse.

Based on limited experience, I would recommend Destin or thereabouts.

Yup 26 year old single WASP. My fear is I get in an apartment complex where it is all families or a retirement home.
I have just heard so many different things about Mobile (good and bad). More or less looking for a place where I can go out by myself and have fun meeting new people during the weekend and have easy traveling during the week.

Check out Spanish Villa apartments in Spring Hill which is safe, next to Spring Hill College and SHC golf course. Good mix of young and old. About a 15 minute drive downtown. The pool has some nice talent during the summer without being crowding
Check out lofts or condos downtown Mobile.
There are also some loft apartments in midtown Mobile that are ok.
Good luck

I'm from Bay Saint Louis, MS, a sleepy little town 30 minutes from Biloxi. Given the geographical area described, Mobile is 100% your best bet. Ocean Springs is second. All the aforementioned places such as P'cola, Gulf Breeze, Gulf Shores are very cheesy and to me only appeal if you're under 18 or over 81.
Mobile has a lot of beautiful college aged girls, young professional women and a great downtown. The strip between Masquerades and Blue planet are heaven on earth on Thursday nights..(surely those bars are called something else by now).. great live music scene too. It's as close to NOLA as you'll see in this region. I highly recommend it.

If you are going to live in Mobile let me take care of it for you. I live in Springhill, it is Bocage (Baton Rouge Ref )of Mobile. Any young hot girls there are married or under 18 jail bait, are just driving though. Spring-hill girls are not as plentiful r cute as USA girls.
It is a little known secret that you can rent the apts that USA built even if you are not a student depending on vacancy. Really sub contracted them and dont really own them but owned the land or something. USA is bigger than LSU I think about 12-14 k students mostly girls, etc. I know you can get in these in Summer and just stay but looks like have vacancy now.
Great location as right by Azalea trails golf course and Mobile Tennis center which is nicest public tennis club in the world. Right by Academy and all West Mobile places to eat etc, CCM etc. Not far from downtown, and if you go there a lot you can join the Springhill trolley for 30-50 bucks a month and they will ferry your drunk arse to the bars and home.
Two of these are brand new. The Grove and Edge I know are almost brand new.
BTW, When you do this and score first hot coed, you can buy me a beer at Mellow Mushroom.
LINK
5 minutes to 1-65 which takes you to 10 or Birmingham. I actually get to Ocean springs faster from here than you would if you live in West Mobile due to traffic. You will turn right at Mellow mushroom and take right down Springhill to 65.
