Bielema, who led to the Razorbacks to a 7-6 season and their first bowl game in three seasons last year, will also receive a raise from his previous $3.2 million salary — making an average of $4.25 million annually over the six-year deal. He'll make $4 million this year with annual raises of $100,000 after that, culminating with a base salary of $4.5 million in 2020.
The new contract also raises his buyout, if he were to leave Arkansas, from $2 million to $4 million in 2015. The buyout decreases by $1 million annually through 2018 and is $500,000 in 2019 and $250,000 in 2020.
If the school fires Bielema over the next three years, it would owe him $15.4 million.
Not bad for being 2-14 in conference

Saban had won a national title and two SEC titles to get 8 years and 32 million in 2007. Wow. Just wow. Bret is going to do solid things at Arkansas, maybe even a SEC title or two. But after 3-9 and 7-6, he's still bargaining with those Rose Bowls he lost.

Probably should have held off one more year to be sure.

Yeah, maybe, but Arkansas is going to be a legit SEC West foe in the coming years. Good move by their AD, in my opinion.

he has a track record of success, it's not like this was his second season ever as a head coach. he's a good fit for us

Not arguing that. What was the motivation to renegotiate this off season? What benefit does it provide the University? It was unnecessary and exposed the school to additional risk without a corresponding reward.

goodwill for down the road if Iowa or the NFL does ever come calling?
coaches have huge egos, If he entered a season as one of the lowest paid head coaches he wouldn't forget that.

why did Mullen, Richt, Freeze and Jones get raises? it's not like we are the only school that does this, not even close

Not sure why you are blindly defending this move. It wasn't a good move, but if Belleview works out, the issue becomes moot and no harm no foul.

he improved us drastically from year 1 and year 2, why not reward him?
