Diamonds, pity the schools that don't understand then.

UT fans are OBSESSED with Florida right now.
Many of us are obsessed with recruiting not Florida -- Florida just happens to be in a unique position. It's utterly fascinating that UF which lives in the recruiting version of the land of milk and honey is having problems with this class. It would be the same if UGA was having issues.
IOW, when UF isn't pulling down top classes people want to know why. Sure, some are needling you (the OP is) but the question of what the hell is going on is a legit one and one that would make for a great thread if folks could act with some maturity about it.

I think is an exceptional year, and it could be horrible signing day, but signs are pointing to a strong finish (meaning mid to upper twenties, with an outside chance of around 20 or less).
You never know until you get the LOI though, and I'm prepared for the worse. Right now I'm concerned but cautiously optimistic, although any outcome will not be surprising.
I am happy that we seem to be filling our needs.

Because recruits knew that Muschamp's job wasn't safe for a while...and most of our top targets are announcing on NSD. Not worried about this class.
Also, 10 in a row.

Muschamp used to sign 5* OL by default every year.
When did this happen? Wish it was the case, but we are in a terrible position on the offensive line because of him.

I've heard the 20ish to 30ish estimate as well and UF is certainly climbing as more recruits are added. That said, the analyst (a UF recruiting analyst) was basing the 25-35 estimate on landing one or more of the big 3 instate prospects. Do you think that happens and if so how many of them do you think you might get?
Even if y'all miss on those, filling needs is incredibly important.
As to it being an exceptional year, I agree - FSU and so many other Florida-based schools weren't the same threat level last time. And of course, more and more schools across the South and even outside of the South are recruiting Florida than ever before. So while y'all are recruit rich I do wonder how much the landscape is changing with so many factors at play and how that will all play out in the future. It may not change all that much but it may change a lot.
While it's too soon for it to matter immediately (maybe not for the next five years or so), and I realize you already do this to some extent, if I were at UF I'd start looking to revamp the recruitment strategy and start expanding your territories/recruiting areas even more -- make it much more regional and national than at present while still focusing on instate recruits. But that's a future plan rather than an immediate strategy.
MOAR recruits and MOAR recruiting regions is always a good thing in my eyes.

Behind powerhouses such as in-state rival USF, Wake Forest, and Western Michigan. What has happened in Gainesville? We weren't even that low in the Croom Era. Last in the SEC behind Vandy and Kentucky.

IMO
70% chance UF lands Martez Ivey. AU is main competition.
50% chance UF lands Byron Cowart. AU is main competition.
30% chance UF lands CeCe Jefferson. OM & Bama are main competition.

I remember one UT fan making fun of UF's recruiting class about a month ago. While the class was pretty bad, I thought it was too early to judge. Well, now it's 3 days before NSD and they're still ranked #83 on rivals with 0 4*. I'd be legit concerned if I was a UF fan.

If I were a Gator fan I'd be pretty worried and embarassed.

All UF fans will be worried or embarrassed if things go badly in the next 4 days. But honestly, UF could clean up the next 4 days. So many late announcements for the people they are after.

True. If things stay as they are it will look bad for UF.

How much do you think Muschamp factors in here? Both in terms of him no longer being there and in terms of him now recruiting those guys to Auburn?
Posted on 2/1/15 at 7:04 pm to Prof
Had Muschamp not landed at Auburn, it wouldn't even be close. UF would def had gotten Cowart and Ivey.
Now it's a toss up on Cowart, and closer than it should have been for Ivey.

Thanks for the info. What about just the loss of him at UF? He needed to go but it also looks like a lot of players and recruits were Muschamp guys and I wonder how that's effected things.

Can't forget Holland either. He was a lock to AU as soon as Champ was hired.
Another thing people don't take into account regarding this class is the fact CSU doesn't recruit UF caliber players. Had they, we would have seen 5-6 guys carried over from their class to ours ala James Franklin poaching guys from Vandy once he was hired at PSU.
Mac & crew have been fighting an uphill battle since they stepped on campus. I'll judge their recruiting abilities next year when they have more than 5 weeks to build relationships with recruits.
If they don't sign a top 10 class in 2016, I'll be worried.

Is everyone just ignoring that the link brings you to his 247 page, where he is a 3* on 247 and a 3* on the composite?...

"I'm not trying to flame here but why is UF struggling so much with recruiting? Muschamp, Meyer, Spurrier used to sign 5* OL and DL by default every year."
No, he didn't. That is the single biggest reason UF struggled under Muschamp. UF's OL was the worst in the conference for the last 4-5 years. Absolutely putrid. I don't think Driskell (or Brantley, either) would have struggled near as much if they had even an average OL.

There's a lot of ignorance going on up in this thread.

The recruiting landscape is changing for sure. I think the SEC network and TV availability for a lot of the smaller programs (non big 6) has increased so much that exposure isn't really a factor anymore. Recruits can stay home and still get plenty of tv time, and become hometown heroes, even if they attend non big conference programs.
FSU has always been a battle for recruits, nothing has really changed there. Miami used to be in it too, but it is quickly becoming a second rate program, with much smaller fan base, and less cache than before.
Coach Mac has put assistant coaches that know Florida. Shannon was a stroke of genius. He is putting emphasis on local guys, something Muschamp, and Meyer didn't do. I think we will see significant improvement in keeping local guys.
We did need LBs in this class that we didn't get, but we are so loaded elsewhere in D (assuming we are keeping Cowart and Cece), that I think we can fill our needs completely next year.
We do need a QB, and I don't know that we will get one.
