Think objectively for a moment. He's already the DC at the SEC and nations top program. But would leave for a shittier job that has to compete against said team every year guaranteed? With less talent to boot. Where as he could have been a HC elsewhere. Now if LSU offered the HC position I think that's a different tune.
DC at LSU Lol
DC at LSU Lol

I wouldn't be upset if it happens.

Oh Please Oh Please Oh Please let this happen.

Unless he is unhappy or wants a new challenge I don't see it happening. He didn't leave for Georgia and that's his alma mater. If he does leave we will be fine.

If it happened it would solely be to prove he can put out a great defense without Saban looking over his shoulder, which is a natural feeling for anyone to have.

God Kirby better decline that shite with the quickness.
That would be a punch to the face to every Alabama football player, student and diehard.
As far as pay, facilities etc it's not even a lateral move.

Three pages and I'm still trying to figure out why the frick it's story that LSU reached out to Smart. Kirby Smart has zero control over what schools pick up the phone and reach out to him.
I'll tell you the changes I'd like to see on defense. I'd like to see some badass size, speed, and talent. Hopefully with some of the guys we recruited last year and this year, it's on its way.

He's now among their leading candidate:

LSU has stepped up its pursuit of Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart for the same job with the Tigers, sources close to LSU told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune on Tuesday.
There is mutual interest from Smart for the job left open when John Chavis left for the same job at Texas A&M the day after the Tigers' Music City Bowl loss to Notre Dame on Dec. 30. Smart is now among the leading candidates and talks between the two sides are ongoing.
Smart, 39, coached under Nick Saban at LSU in his final season, 2004, and has been defensive coordinator at Alabama since Saban became head coach in 2007.
Smart made $1.35 million last season, more than LSU paid Chavis ($1.312 million) in his final season. A clause in Smart's contract calls for a $72,000 buyout payable within 14 days of departure, according to documents obtained by NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune.
In 2010, Smart was courted heavily for the the defensive coordinator job at Georgia after Alabama won the national championship after the 2009 season. He ultimately turned the job down and got a big raise.
Smart played defensive back at Georgia from 1995-98 and stayed on as an administrative assistant with the Bulldogs in 1999. He coached defensive backs at Valdosta State the next season before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2001.
After two seasons as a graduate assistant at Florida State he coached defensive backs at LSU, running backs at Georgia (2005) and safeties with the Miami Dolphins. He followed Saban to Alabama in 2007.
LSU has contacted several candidates about the opening, including another former Tiger assistant, Mel Tucker, who coached the Tigers under Saban in 2000. Tucker is currently the defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears but head coach Marc Trestman was recently fired there.
