Looking Forward - Wide Receivers

Posted on 1/7/15 at 12:24 pm
Key Departures: Sasser, Hunt, White, Otte
Returning Starters: None
In the Mix: Leftwich (Sr.), Moore (So.), Brown (So.), Richard (Fr.), Blair (Fr.), DiLosa (Fr.)
New Additions: Hall, Floyd, Johnson, Smith
Currently on roster, just enough to fill out a 2 deep. I have given up on Leftwich and don't see his role changing much next year. The lack of touches for the younger players concerns me as well. We've all talked about it, Brown and Moore have to step up big time. Many would love to see some depth added to the position by moving Zanders and Doherty there.
WR seems to be a position that someone always seems to step up so while the lack of depth, lack of experience and lack of returning production worries me, I'll pull for next years receiving corp being a push with this past season's WR corp. After all, while I liked Sasser, it's not like him, Hunt and White were world beaters.

Will agree. The person that can improve our WRs is Maty by pretending he's in the 4th quarter all the time.....last few games in the 4th quarter he was getting it done.

The new crop of WR's are big and athletic. The good thing is they will grow with MM.

Again Mr. Zanders needs to see his future is at WR.

Id like to see Abbington take a few snaps out wide.

really upset that Lawrence Lee got kicked off the team, I know it was a while ago, but I was watching his highlights and the kid was Marcus Murphy 2.0

Lee got caught stealing from his teammates. He blew his chance on his own.

I don't see a single WR moving forward actually, only horizontal.

"Lee got caught stealing from his teammates. He blew his chance on his own."
ya that's tough, not arguing that he should've been kept on the team, but talent-wise I would love to still have him

None of those Fr WR's do anything for me.
Was really confused at each of those offers.
At least 2 of 3 had alternative motives to them getting offered.
Doesn't Richard have a brother?
And DiLosa was a desperate attempt to keep the TX pipeline going.
Richard was also a way for us to break into TN.
If we don't get a legit game changing true freshman with the 'play immediately' card, we're going to be hurting big time at WR.
Fully expect Abbington to be thrown the ball next year.

Not too come off wrong but have you seen all of tthese fr wrs practice day in day out for you to say they don't move you. Now if you have I understand your your point of view. I haven't seen them practice day in day out but from what I seen from there high school sr HLs I believe we will have something to work with. The only wr that concerns me is jvon Moore b/c he barely seen the field as a rs fr. The wr I liked most frm high school HLs was Richard and remember he was out producing just about every wr in the scrimmages coming into the season. I wish we can add two more wrs in this class justin Smith & Brandon Martin. Jmo

I'm hoping TE Reese helps fill the void.
He certainly has the look of a prototype, receiving TE.

I think Blanton fills that void.

In the 2016 class.
I obviously didn't see him, but by all accounts, Richard showed well at camp.
Also don't know much about Blair and DiLosa, but I think they were last minute offers, though their size intrigues me. Don't know if either are game changers but I think they can be contributors.

I think a few times a game Brantley needs to be used at WR on the bubble screen. The average DB would not enjoy being out there one on one with Brantley. The Bama DBs did not look like they wanted much to do with that O state QB when he was on the run. Brantley would be just as scary and maybe more so.
