LSU fans, would you welcome a 3-4 philosophy from new DC?

Are you partial to the 4-3?

I don't think we quite have the personnel for a 3-4. We'd need bigger lbs and a nose. I wouldn't mind the change though.

At this point LSU will take whatever the candidate brings. They're not in a choosing position

i'm open to any change that involves us going away from running 2 cornerbacks and 9 safeties on defense.

i like bigger linebackers and defensive ends, but the proliferation of the spread punishes that. gotta be a happy medium between our personnel/scheme and a heavy defense like bama's.

They would basically be conceding 2015 with a switch to the 3-4. Not a smart move at this juncture, imo.

We don't have the personnel for that scheme right now. It would take a major transition covered the span of 3-4 years. LSU has the talent on D to run a 4-3 and compete right now. I don't think we'll be changing.

Good question, though.

Louisiana produces a lot better DL talent than LB talent usually. I'd prefer to stay at 4-3.

If they continue to serve my favorite foods in the club level, they can use any defensive formation they want and oh yeah, maybe add another 1-2 home games per season

Our linebackers don't quite fit plus I don't think we have run stuffing nose tackle

We don't have the linebackers for the 3-4.

I LOVE the 3-4. But we don't have that type of skill set on defense

I'll take any defense that Miles doesn't screw up and lets us win.

Don't think so, I don't think it works against the spread well. I think the classic 3-4 is outdated vs modern offenses. Forgetting Alabama's recent struggles vs the spread for a moment, go back and look at what happened to the Steelers' defense the year Tampa won the Superbowl. Pittsburg had been considered elite, until Oakland came in and absolutely shredded them.

Personnel fits 4-3 but whatever the new DC sees as fitting to be most successful I'm all for

Depending on coaching and personnel, a 3-4 generally gives a defense a wider variety of options to pressure the QB without a lot of blitzing. (In a three four, pass rushing by an outside backer is not considered blitzing in the true sense of the term.) You have to have a couple of stud nose tackles to sustain success. Wouldn't mind it but the DL recruiting at LSU would have to shift gears to make it work.
