Told LSU to frick off? We all know it wasnt over money.

Was he tired of not getting the respect he deserved when he was the best coach on staff?

Hes aging out on the tail end of a successful career and needed some more green. And since Sumlin doesn't drug test I mean that in two senses of the word.

And he wanted to try things out with a functional offense, can't blame him there

maybe going to Texas A&M is Chavis' way of coming out of the closet?

Maybe Chavis was tired of LSU's small defense getting pushed around and run over.

Money was a factor, but the term of the contract was the primary reason. Most assistant coaches have only a one year contract, but top coordinators often get a two year deal so that they've got a year's pay waiting if the head coach gets canned. Means that they don't have to take the first job that comes along.

LSU wasn't willing to give Chavis any guarantee beyond one year--their proposal said it was for three years, but had an out if Miles was no longer head coach. That's not consistent with the market, so Chavis took the money, and the guarantee (3 years, even more than the 2 big time coordinators get) that A&M was offering.

He wasn't a Michigan man and didn't feel wanted for that fact.

Smart move for him really

More money, longer contract, lower expectations

I mean who wouldn't take a higher paying job where mediocrity at their position would not only be tolerated but celebrated? Just think about it, with A&Ms lack of talent on defense and their inability to field even a mediocre defensive squad over the past few years, how much will Chavis really need to do to be considered a god over there? Top 60 defense? Sign him up!
