Our success solely lays on if Brandon Allen gains the ability to complete a pass in which the ball has to travel more than 5 yards consistently along with how improved our WR corps will be. We have zero deep threat and that's our biggest holdup. If our passing attack can do just enough to spread defenses out even a hair next year, we'll be a damn good football team.

Look, I've given Brandon shite in the past, but let's be real here.....he threw 20 TDs and only 5 picks this season.

That's not bad at all. Get that 56% completion pct up a few points and he is golden. He is good at protecting the ball and managing the offense.

You need more than that to be a top 10 team. You have to have at least a hint of a deep threat. Some of that is on lack of talent at WR, some of that is on B. Allen being extremely hot and cold on deep balls. He had a great percentage due to slants, outs, and curls of the 5-7 yard variety. I can probably count one my fingers how many times he completed a pass in which the ball was in the air for over 15 yards this season. Again, not all on him, but he's not consistent with anything beyond that. I've improved on my opinion of him this year, for sure. I didn't want him sniffing the field before this year, now I don't mind him being our QB at all, as long as he can develop his footwork and get an actual deep ball. He gets skittish with his footwork when the pocket isn't crystal clear. Throws off his back foot A LOT which needs to stop. He's a redshirt junior. That shite should be gone by now. It's nit-picky, but it's what we need from him to be an SEC contender. If he develops well mechanically over the offseason, I think we're golden next year.

I think it's more of a matter of if Chaney's still here rather than BA, at this point, as to how the season goes.

And the rest of it is on the lack of pass protection.

You give BA Oregon's WRs and all the sudden he would be in talks for several post season awards. He has to throw a catchable ball that only his guy can catch, while Oregon, SOU, Baylor, TCU, ETC have guys who go get a ball that is thrown their way.

Arkansas doesn't have a WR fast enough to be a deep threat, they need to get some, should have already had some, but Rome wasn't built in a day or two recruiting classes.

I've not been shy about being a B Allen hater in the past. Honestly, he improved about 75% this year over last. If he improves the same amount next year, we could easily be a 9 win team.

As much as I hate on him, he did have ALOT of big 3rd and 8 type conversions this year. Granted he'd throw a shitty pass on 1st and 2nd down, he'd somehow throw one on the numbers on 3rd.

I'm gaining more faith in him.

This.

When Morgan and Hollister are our receiving threats, we're basically bringing a plastic spork to a gun fight.

A couple of good receivers would not only open up the run game, it would also make our TE's more deadly. If our TE's can perform how they do now, imagine how effective they'll be when they have mismatches to work with.

Teams can now just put their best cover guys on Hatcher and Henry and our pass game is shut down. Most 2nd stringers can shut down our other "receivers"

If he makes a similar jump he made from 2013 to 2014, we'll be great. His completion % would probably be well over 60 if you take away drops.

Maybe the most shocking stat about us IMO this year was I heard during one of our games that we led (or were leading) the SEC in 3rd down conversion %. Maybe that's common with run-first teams though, I don't know.

This is the 4 game stretch that is going to set the tone of our season. If we come out of Arlington with a win (doable, I believe) we can go to Tennessee with some confidence, and maybe pull out that. At Alabama, well, I don't want to concede ANY thing, but it will be a very pleasant surprise to come home with a win there. We have a shot a home against Auburn.

4-0 in that run would be a stretch.
3-1 would be very good.
2-2 we could still probably have an 8 or 9 game win season.
1-3 not too good but still could have an improved record.
0-4 could still make a lower bowl maybe.

I just dont see us losing to A&M or Tenn. Tenn should be improved next year though, and we are at their house. When was the last time we played at Tenn?

I thought I was being conservative in saying 9-3.

But dammit, we should have been, lol.

Ditto.

I thought 10-2 was a very real possibility in this thread, but I ended up going with 9-3 in tOfficial rant prediction thread.

However, if you'd have told me before the season that we'd go 3-1 in SEC play on the road against Tennessee, Bama, Ole Miss and LSU, I'd have gone with 10-2 no questions asked. Of course, if you'd have told me we'd start the season 1-3 with consecutive losses to Toledo, Tech and A&M, I'd have said we weren't going bowling.

This just ended up being one of the weirder Hog football seasons I can remember.
