First of all, I'm not sure why you're bringing any of this up as it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the discussion we're having. It just seems weird and out of place. I tried going to blackmingle.com and it didn't work. But if it does exist, why would it matter? Anyone can create any website they want to--it's not a reflection of anything in particular. I can go make "white people are the devil dot com" and people could bring it up doing an argument about race, but would it really mean anything? No. As for the NAACP and BAC, what do you not understand? African Americans are a minority that has been crapped on by the majority for hundreds of years. Both organizations formed decades ago when virtually every other political organization was exclusively comprised of white people and primarily represented the interests of white people. There was no place for African Americans in most institutions in the US, so they made their own. I'm honestly bewildered... what point are you trying to make? How does it relate to Fayetteville's anti-discrimination ordinance?
Probably not the best time to air my thoughts on different races seemingly to now expect reparations or preferential treatment, regardless of the past.
But if every single person did the following, we would not have an issue, nor need legislation.
Treat others the way you want to be treated, love your neighbors as yourself.
End of rant for me... I am only in Fayetteville on game days!

It seems that lots of local Christians have a problem with this one. Regardless of the shortcomings of the ordinance, I don't understand the idea that doing business with a gay person "compromises one's faith". I do business with hindus, Muslims, Christians, gays, lesbos, crackheads, alcoholics, adulterers, etc all damn day long.
It is part of living in a multicultural society. And how the hell does selling someone a rainbow cake "endorse their lifestyle" any more than selling a Star of David cake is an endorsement of Judaism?
Hilariously, most modern evangelicals would have no problem with a Star of David cake, even though it isn't their religion, and modern Judaism stands in opposition to their religion. Ignorance is powerful.

It's easy to point out what people should do, and the way things should be, but what's far more important than that, and unfortunately far more difficult, is to find practical, working solutions for these problems. (this part not necessarily addressed to Rev: Sometimes the solution requires legislation, which is why overly zealous libertarianism is flawed.)

it is very hypocritical to deny service or goods to anyone period...
In Acts of the Bible is told the story of gathering together all that one could and selling to help those in need. In doing this, they sold the goods to whomever had the funds to buy period.
I understand the thought behind it, sad really that we have to have legislation to treat others in the way Christ would want us too. And then try to teach them in the process, not judge!

There are also passages in the bible that deems slavery to be OK and an acceptable practice.
People shouldn't try to use a 2000+ year old text to legislate today's world, we have all evolved, those who want to do this seem to have a huge problem with countries in other parts of the world practicing this with another ancient text they deem to be wrong and heresy.

Looks like all the "moderates" who objected to the ordinance due only to the wording and overreaching nature are going to get a chance to put up or shut up.

Of course, the guy from repeal 119 says that it "can't be fixed."
Petty is being cagey, though. He wants a representative from Repeal 119 to be on a committee to look at the ordinance and revise it. If they refuse, then it exposes them as extremists who refuse to come to the table.

Duncan Campbell, president of Repeal 119, said he adamantly opposed using the repealed ordinance as a starting point for future discussions.
"This ordinance can't be fixed," Campbell said. "It's a bad law from beginning to end."

We are the extremists?? I guess if it extremist to think it isn't normal for guys to like guys or dress as women, then so be it.
No one has come to the table and stated why they deserve special rights or why the laws in place don't already protect their rights, as it does mine. Just a bunch of liberal BS.

The idiot Bart Hester is at it again. The guy who cried that there should be a vote now wants to take away any chance to vote by state decree over smaller municipalities. Guess he is only Libertarian when it suits him.

2. It has been explained ad nauseum why the laws currently in place to not protect the rights of LGBT citizens. If you don't understand this yet, you haven't been paying attention. (or you're really stupid, but I'm going to give you the benefit of doubt and assume you just haven't put forth much effort)
edit: An explanation is on the first page of this very thread, so you have no excuse.

1. Yes it does give special rights. Employment protection and housing protection are already included in the current law. This addition allows for criminal charges to be filed. So discriminate against an ethnic group and face civil charges...but discriminate against a gay and face criminal charges. Yep no special rights here.
Furthermore, why should a religious organization or private school, daycare, etc...be forced to hire people that don't align with their beliefs? If you have kids, would you be ok with their daycare being forced to allow gay people to work there. Cause I sure as hell wouldn't.

Whats wrong with a gay person working at a daycare? Do you have a problem with gay people working at schools and hospitals or in law enforcement?

The problem is the term "gay people", you and I read that as person who happens to be gay. He reads it as demon spawn pedophile in waiting.

I wasn't aware that Fayetteville hates the gays.

Cause their are certain things i don't want my children exposed to, and that's my right as a parent. Some people wouldn't want their kids to attend daycare/school where the bible was taught, that's their right to. I also wouldn't want an alcoholic, drug addict, etc working at my children's preschool. Does that make me a bad person?

Please tell me which law includes these protections for gay people. You won't find it, because there is no such state, federal, or city law. That is the whole fricking point of this law.
The reason the penalty is criminal is because the city can't make its own civil law per state statute. Speeding tickets are also criminal penalties, fyi. zomg

Day cares already hire women who are promiscuous and bang lots of dudes, people who smoke cigarettes, etc. Its like you think gay people walk around fricking each other in broad daylight.
