I can live with that.
I mean, I think he's a good choice, but not the grand slam homer of a Chip Kelly.
Given the horror of that scenario - I am fine with this.

You should start a third thread on this topic as well...

Mcelwain is a nobody. He won't make it 4 years.

What makes you say that?

He's held a lot of positions in a short amount of time. If he was worth a sht, somebody would have locked him up long-term.

At Bama from 2008-2011 then Colorado St from 2012-2014. That's not bad at all and definitely doesn't indicate he's a bad coach. I actually think he could do a pretty good job at UF.
Also, coaches that are planning on moving up in the ranks don't let themselves get "locked up long term" by schools like Colorado State.

He took Colorado State to 10-2 this season. That's quite an improvement and may be a very positive sign. He certainly has a better resume than Muschamp did, but it's still a bit of a risk. It's not like he turned Colorado State into a nationally recognized program like Urban did in Utah.
So I think it's a much better risk than the hiring of Muschamp, but it certainly doesn't have the 'wow' factor of a Chip Kelly. Which is nice.

Over the past 20 years, he hasn't held a position longer than 4 years...

Which isn't that bad of a thing if he kept leaving because he was being hired for better and better jobs. That's kind of how many coaches have to climb the very long coaching ladder in big time college football I do believe. Until you finally reach the peak, which McElwain just has. Now we'll see if he's good enough to stay there.

Neither has Malzahan. Neither has Chip Kelly aside from a 7 year stint at New Hampshire. Saban hadn't until his current run at Bama. Not saying McElwain will be like those coaches, just that as long as coaches are working their way up, they don't always stay at one place that long and it's not an indication that he's gonna suck.

Wikipedia states him as the head coach for UF already.

I think McEwain is going to be good. I had a buddy that played for him at CSU and all of the players really like him and he knows his stuff as well. He improved them quickly as well.

Dude will certainly be entering the SEC East at an opportune time to get some signature wins. The SEC East is worse than every single power 5 conference and it ain't even close. Say what you will but the ACC proved beyond doubt that the SEC east simply sucks.

So by your logic Pruitt also suck. McElwain is a good hire. Better him than Kelly though.

Pruitt is an assistant coach.

Right but he has bounced around a lot. McElwain is a good coach.

It appears more and more that JM will be the new guy. I'll be honest, at first I was largely underwhelmed. He's not one of this GRAND SLAM names that fans drool over when it's time for a coaching change. But the more I've read about him, the more he just seems really solid. The turnaround he's done at CSU is pretty impressive to me. It's also reported we'll keep our DC on staff, which is a plus.
The guy probably isn't a miracle worker so who knows how long it'll take to officially right the ship, but my hope is that at LEAST we'll be more fun to watch during losses next year

McElwain was an assistant for all of his bouncing around too. I actually think he could be a really good hire for UF. They will always have a defense that gets the job done, now they have the chance to make some improvements on offense. Pretty scary thought honestly.

I honestly think McElwain is a good hire
