If he makes a grand slam DC hire and the unit turns around (and thus making 2015 relatively or wildly successful) he will get very little if any credit. The narrative will be that he cannot win without an all-time legend at QB or elite assistant coaches around him.

However, if his DC hire flames out and the unit stinks again he will get all the blame and likely not last past 2016 at most.

There is really no scenario in which Sumlin can win AND get the credit unless he somehow puts out a great season next year despite the defense still underperforming.

Sumlin doesn't care about credit unless you think he is gunning for the NFL. He cares about keeping his $5 million a year job, and only option A guarantees that.

Cause let's be honest if he does something big than frick the Haters, he gets a statue.

I really don't think Sumlin gives a shite about such trivial matters as credit, tbh.

At least I hope not. But I really don't think so.

Meaningless. As long as he's winning and paid then he'll be a happy camper.

Yall's offense doesn't help yalls defense either. Because of the pace yall play out if yall score fast or get a 3&out it strands the defense out on the field getting worn out.

Arkansas under Petrino had good/decent Defenses in the first half but due to the offense scoring so quickly they would tire very fast. It's a win/lose scenario with a very quick/explosive offense.

Makes absolutely no sense the HC gets credit for making his hire and allowing his coaches to coach, but he also takes all the blame if a defense product is horrible.

I don't think there is much conflict.

Sumlin is probably thinking that if you don't win enough games as a head coach, then you get fired and look for jobs at smaller schools or coordinator positions at bigger schools. Ask Muschamp or Pelinni if they would like badass coordinators.

This. ^^^

If you win and beat credible opponents, nobody is going to give a rat's arse when it comes to who gets credit. The players still have to play the game. Coaching only goes so far.
