The SEC is already the top football and baseball conference. When will we decide to make it a trifecta and put serioues effort into bball. UK and UF can only carry us so far.

Probably when football is abolished.

LSU's trying, but it's hard to get sports fans in small towns to care about more than one or two sports at a time. There's only so much time that can be devoted to going to games and only so much money that can be spent on tickets and such.
Let's face it, if you're an Auburn fan and you can afford football OR basketball tickets, which are you going to choose?

Too many schools care more about baseball than basketball which I think is a huge problem
No one gives a shite about baseball nationally. Might as well invest in the more relevant sport nationwide.

Hopefully soon, but I'm beginning to fear UGA's administration will never care about basketball and they'll only care about UGA's football program enough to ensure that the money still flows in.

You must be very young.
The proper question to as is will will SEC basketball return to the level it was in the past.
Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri (yes, I know they just joined), LSU, Tennessee, and Alabama all have 20 or more NCAA tournament appearances.
Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, Florida, and Mississippi State all have final 4 appearances since the 1992 expansion.
From 1999 to 2008, (when the league was 12 teams) the SEC averaged 6 teams in the NCAA tourney each year, never sent fewer than 5, and sent as many as 8 (75% of the conference).
We've never been the ACC but recent suckage notwithstanding, SEC basketball has historically been pretty good.

if "so far" means National Titles, then as a conference, who cares?

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that basketball just isn't a big deal in most areas of the south. Most of the athletes play football and baseball growing up and basketball is just something to pass the time. In places like Indiana and North Carolina, every kid grows up playing basketball. Same thing applies in your large urban areas. Also, the brand of basketball played in most southern high schools is really sloppy fundamentally and it translates to the college game.

This whole discussion is bizarre to me. We care about basketball, even though a decade of suck.
We also care about baseball. We care about everything.
I guess that's why we're tFlagship.

The big 3 are:
College Football
College Basketball
Womens' College Basketball
The SEC is pretty good in all 3.

How many teams did we put in the NCAA tournament last year dummy?

Interesting info on this site. Most talent comes from the Midwest and northeast, but it looks like Mississippi and Louisiana should have the in-state talent per capita to build a program.

Seems to me that basketball is more popular in the northeast due to weather and metropolitan areas. In the city it's easier to find a court to play on than a field to play football or baseball. I'd imagine colder temps have athletes indoors playing basketball instead of outside playing other sports.
I think the rise of the sec in football has pulled a lot of athletes from basketball to football in the south, too. I don't recall any bball player ever getting free crab legs :)
