I have a dream that one day LSU fans will come to terms that their football team is not deserving of a national title every single year. I have a dream that one day reality will hit them square in the face.
And that day is Saturday, in the form of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The winner of the national championship game is the national champion.

Ok let me pose it this way. There were 8 computer rankings, which all valued information differently. So this "they" in the aggregate is just like a committee of 8 people who have their own criteria for ranking teams.
There were also 2 groups of affiliated, biased voters who had just as much accountability as the current committee, and who had their own reasons.
It was not as clear as you are remembering.

Head to head shouldn't be the overriding factor though. Nothing should be. Everything should count. It should be a body of work. You were dismantled by Auburn. That matters. Ole Miss has a more impressive win. That matters as well. It isn't absurd that they are ranked higher than you.

Then what's the point of a head-to-head playoffs?
Head to head is everything when you are actually in the playoffs, but we're not there yet.

Who gives a shite about any rankings right now.
They literally mean nothing.

Head to head wins matter (see OM > Bama last week) but terrible losses hurt worse (see 1 loss Ohio St). Basically you can't get arse raped by Auburn 41-7 and expect them to respect you.

This would be the way it SHOULD happen in this scenario, but say the committee leaves out a 1-loss ND or B1G champ. Then who got screwed?
The only way to solve this is by expanding the playoffs to 8 teams. Yeah, #9 may have an occasional gripe. But I don't think anybody will be much interested in that. This year, #5 fans are almost certainly going to bitch, and they may have a point.

Since none of you seem to have the ability to comprehend and discuss the OP, let me simplify it for you.
Either head-to-head matters or it doesn't.
If it does, then the playoff committee is a fraud.
If it doesn't, then what is the point of conducting a head-to-head playoff?
And since you and the OP obviously don't have the ability to comprehend the basic reality of the situation, I'll try to explain it to you. And I'll go really slow, OK?
Head to head matters.
Head to head isn't the only thing that matters.
And no one ever said that head to head is the only thing that matters.
Get it?
Personally,I think it's pretty fricking stupid for LSU fans to get worked up about it. You'll either beat Bama Saturday, in which case you'll likely be ranked ahead of Ole Miss...or you won't.

people will be begging for the BCS to be brought back.
Hell, I was wanting that as soon as they said a few people (with inherent biases) were decided to pick the teams. This committee will be a shite show till its gone.

LSU needed an easy dropped TD and a jeff driskel miracle derp to beat florida, a massive comeback to slip by wisconsin, and got their shite pushed all the way in by msu and auburn.
Ole miss should not be ranked ahead of lsu anymore given their injuries imo, but lsu has no legs to stand on in the subjective playoff analysis right now. Beat bama then itll work itself out.

Honestly, the committee would be fine if a few changes were made IMO.
1. Rather than have the committee meet and put out a single ranking, have each member submit their own ballot with their personal top 25. You then take the aggregate of each team and that would be your final committee ranking.
2. Release each members ballot to the public so that the secrecy of who voted for who and why they did so is gone.
3. Have a ESPN (Or whoever) special every Sunday, or Monday or Whenever, where the committee field any questions about their rankings (mainly centered around the top 4 obviously) in an Around the Horn type setup.
More transparency would help eliminate much of the bias that people have problems with. Before you try to argue, bias is human nature and is inherent in a system like this where a member can vote however they want without any sort of blowback. It would also keep the committee members from influencing each other while sitting in a meeting room.

It will matter when it comes down to the end but right now LSU got butt stomped by the two best teams it played and it's best win was a scraping by at home.
Ole Miss has a better win and it's two losses are much better as well.
If LSU beats bama this weekend I expect they will jump Ole Miss but right now their "body of work" doesn't stack up.

We're having a playoff so that teams can decide it on the field in head-to-head competition, yet according to the committee tasked with choosing the teams to participate, head-to-head competition isn't a deciding factor. Does this make sense to anyone?

Why do people even care about rankings as of November 5th?
