Speedy, Garrett, Alaka, Walker, Johnson, Watts, etc. are all making plays and make me optimistic about our future.

Can't be upset with those gentlemen.

I was telling. Buddy it's kind of exciting to see these young guys get after it.

Yep! I'd like to see Boom coaching them, though. That would be awesome for 2 very different reasons.

I know (hope) you guys won't take this offensively, but if Garrett was on another team we would be an absolute lock for DFOTY, even considering I think he's the favorite. Would be in the conversation for preseason SEC DPotY next year.
Dude is an absolute stud.

Of course none offense taken
Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully he continues to develop and we put a competent unit around him instead of squadering his obvious talent.

I agree
BUT....at some point we have to stop using the "we're young" excuse! Tackling fundamentals are missing from this team. I really hope Sumlin starts putting out feelers for new potential coordinators earlier than other coaches.

I agree with the part about fundamentals ans new coaches.
But I also have to wonder what the hell is going on with our upper classmen?
Sumlin said that the players who actaully wanted to play would see the field against ULM, and we eneded up with 22 true and redshirt freshman seeing playing time.
So what the hell is up with our upper classmen? Why aren't they showing any fight for their positions?

I don't know, but what I do know is we have to stop the attrition and it needs to start with this class. We need everyone back next year from freshman and sophomore classes so we can start getting some experience and leadership back on this team.

Sumlin has tried twice now to fill his OC job with coaches that had never been coordinators at the college level. I think McKinney had experience calling plays in High School. I am not aware of Spavital having any experience calling plays as a coordinator.
Maybe Spavital grows with the experience he gets this year, maybe not. All I know is that we should not be using our coordinator positions as on-the-job training slots. Bring people in that have skins on the wall and some real experience.

Isn't there that football coaches convention after the season? That's a start. East Carolina's OC had an extraordinarily crazy red zone conversion rate.

I agree. I wonder what this defense would be like if we didnt shite the bed the previous recruiting classes. 2012 and 2013 weren't great, and the best pieces are off the team.
It shows that recruiting is the lifeblood of the program.
