quote:BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A Birmingham lawmaker is again trying to split UAB off from the University of Alabama Board of Trustees. Rep. John Rogers says he is pushing a series of bills designed to give UAB more autonomy from the trustees. Rogers has one bill to separate UAB and UAH from the UA system. Rogers, who is a UAB employee, says the board has stifled the growth of the two campuses in Birmingham and Huntsville. Rogers points the board refusing to consider an on-campus stadium for UAB and the killing of the popular hockey program at UAH. "The board of trustees seem to be geared toward one place. Taking care of one place. Taking care of everybody in Tuscaloosa. Taking care of the University of Alabama. Taking care of Tuscaloosa or UAT. What about UAB, UAH," Rogers said. Rogers says students at UAB who fought for the stadium have increased the sentiment to move away from the UA system. In past Rogers' efforts to break off from the board of trustees have failed.

If John Rogers is all you have, you've already lost the debate.

All of that was from different sources from a 5 minute web search.

DIFFERENT MEDIA SOURCES. EVERY SINGLE QUOTE.

Some of you gumps will defend anything and have zero integrity or regard for reality.

Seriously. Pitiful.

UAT's BOT has purposefully and intentionally harmed UAB football and athletics OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

To claim any differently just shows an utter contempt for integrity in discussing the topic.

I'm not surprised though. Bama football has always been 1,000,000 X more important than a gumps personal integrity.

I'll spend another 10 minutes and copy and paste from another 10 different sources later.

Now I have to get back to work.

You gumps keep own lying and spinning though.

Integrity and gump are two words that rarely collide in the same sentence.

Actually Bama is just better than Auburn historically

And UAB is in a shitty location with a shitty fanbase

You can't accept these things, so you believe the people who are different must be evil

Just like the Nazis

Look, as has been previously stated, I'm sorry Atlanta was poorly planned and is now over-populated but you can't just go around taking other peoples water. It's very uncouth. I mean your friktard Government actually tried to re-draw state lines in the 21st Century, so that it could claim water from Tennessee. That's just desperate

Go steal water from South Carolina, no one cares about them anyway

There's enough booster support and local support at most places to make up the difference

There isn't at UAB

What are boosters other than old, rich, white guys who like to feel important? I'm sure there's someone out there who's ticked at Alabama or Auburn for that matter who would love to be "THE" booster at UAB.

Once old frat stars figure UAB Athletics is there chance for relevancy I'm sure many would flock to it

KENTUCKY and OLE MISS FANS- what was your opinion of Legion Field when you played in the Bowl Game ?

Would you attend a night game there ?

The Bammers think the rest of the World is blind to their tactics. Again, those UAB Med School Grads would shift their donations to the Mothership, if the program showed any success. UA BOT knows that and fears it.

Ok. Then why isn't there? What's stopping them?

They redrew the lines because they were incorrect and states like Alabama were stealing Georgia water. Again, not sure how water that falls in Georgia, resides in Georgia, belongs to other states

I just find it hilarious that this discussion is revolving around the BOT. The BOT has the power to decide if a school can play a sport. In most places the BOT has no involvment in things like building stadiums, additions, etc because the school itself does not pay for these things. The Foundation does (I have to know about foundations I deal with them quite frequently, both University and Athletic).

The fact that UAB JUST NOW is creating an Athletic Foundation is hysterical. Little Division II schools almost all have foundations, and those foundations solicit the funds and pay for things like stadiums and additions.

For operational expenses and revenues, yes. Which makes sense, they get roughly the same student fees and the same CUSA, NCAA and Guarantee money.

What tactics? Specifically? Refusing to build a ludicrous money-pit stadium?

A $70 million brand new stadium on a constrained budget for a fanbase that averages 15k per game? Yes, total no-brainer

You're being VERY generous.

And here's the real question. Even if they were to get a new stadium, where are they going to get their fans from? Do you think people who have been Bama or Auburn fans are going to suddenly become UAB fans because they have a new stadium? Sorry, in this time of both teams being powerhouses, nobody's switching. UAB is always going to be UAB and nobody but is going to care.
