Paying the player

How do you feel about the NCAA possibly playing players?
Personally, Im at a crossroad. Though I think its highly unfair the Univeristy, NCAA/SEC/ESPN what have you, makes millions off of a particular player. I believe paying the player will water down the sport. We've seen in the NFL how some players, flat out refuses to make a block or even play if their fat contracts isnt to their liking and i'd hate for that to spill over to the NCAA. I'm not ignorant to the fact that boosters, schools - whomever pays players under the table. As im sure the only lily white programs in the NCAA are the service academies. I believe the players in the NCAA play great every weekend in hopes to one day, make that huge paycheck. Paying them now would open the door to unions, stipends, protest what ever, as we already have seen at Northwestern. Maybe a free ride to a highly regarded University should be enough?

I don't think they should be paid. I think it would ruin college sports.

School shouldn't pay them any more than they already get but they should absolutely be able to sign stuff for money.

Full cost of schooling, including room and board. *Maybe* a minor stipend for spending money. That would be it for me. The autograph thing - allowing players to make money from that - opens up a pretty big can of worms.

I want to say this, but think that is a really slippery slope, that WILL be taken advantage of. And would make it even harder for the Ole Miss' and MSU's of the world to compete with Bama, OU, or the really big boys.
I just don't think that would be good for the college game.
Eta: now if the power conferences break away, maybe then I would be fine with a set increase across the board. I just don't really want to have college be limited to a very small amount of teams competing. Upsets is what makes sports great.

How so? "You can sign hats, balls, jerseys and shirts for profit. Nothing more"
That seems reasonable to me.

You are opening Pandora's box here.
Increase their stipend to a reasonable figure and be done with it. If they don't want to play CFB for a free education, world class training, and a couple thousand a month then they don't have to.

Because that profit is a lot greater at say Texas than even LSU, much less Ole Miss.

I have a family member that works for Miss State, when I asked how could I get a Dak autograph, she flat out refused. Said State is very touchy about Dak signing autographs because of the Gurly situation.

I have no problem with them being paid as long as they are responsible for also paying for their own tuition, room and board, meals, etc.

Come to my school Johnny 5* and we will have a exclusive signing contract for you that guarantees you X amount of money per signing.

As they should be. Best season ever could get derailed, real quick, if he was suspended.

Orgeon, Arkansas, and Okie State would prolly like this.
All have extremely rich boosters. That really like football.

Did anyone really see the big deal a few years ago that a couple of Ohio State players got tattoos in exchange for autographs?
Worst. Suspension. Ever.

I wouldn't go that far. Plus I think the cover up was a big part of that. But tats cost money. Even if money didn't exchange hands. Its the same as paying them cash for autographs.
