Pastures are green but so is money......you can do a lot more with MONEY!!He would go if the right offer is made and who could blame him!!!

This isn't the '60's anymore; IF he wants to stay, we CAN, as can ANY SEC School now, match any offer actually made.
IF he wants to leave, money won't keep him there.

Did Nick Satan go to AlaBama for money?
Could LSU not match it, or exceed?

Never say never. If the right job, and circumstances came around, Mullen would leave. I doubt he's there for much longer. And, it's not just $. Facilities, recruiting base, location, etc...

I am not wanting to start anything with any of the hardcore dawgs, but non-Landmass fans should be advised that some of the dawg posters truly believe they have the cheddar to pay Muffin on par with Saban and Stoops. They also truly believe that they have a substantial amount of money either hidden or promised to ensure they keep the coach they want; specifically, they think they can match or outspend Florida, Michigan, and Texas.
They'll be quick to point out the SEC Network funds too, and how that makes them a wealthy AD, although those specific amounts were all speculative.
Just a heads up.

Don't believe, I know IF they want to & IF Mullen wants to stay.
UM CAN do the same thing when it comes to Freeze.

quote:Mullen is not a teenager or someone in his early 20's looking to get drunk or laid by as many women as is humanely possible. I also think the importance of a great party scene is overblown in recruiting. Players in the SEC probably have to lift weights, practice, or play in games 300 days out of the year. They have maybe 1 or 2 off days a week where they can really get fricked up without it negatively impacting their performance as an athlete.
don't see how anyone can be happy in Starkville. It is the worst of all the SEC towns. If another school wants Dan Mullen, he will go.
State is at a disadvantage compared to some other schools when it comes to tradition, facilities, and location

Everyone is missing a huge point, State is the only school in the SEC where he can win 6-7 games a year and not be in the crosshairs to get fired. He's making good money with the least amount of risk out of any SEC school. Why would he jump ship for a little bit more money, that could potentially end his coaching career if it doesn't pan out? He's in a pretty comfy spot.

Dan Mullen will not be leaving for money. Yes, I know, schools like Florida, LSU, etc. can outbid MSU for Mullen....but the question is, why would they want to?
Sure if he gets MSU into the playoffs this year then he will be a hot commodity. But right now, he is a coach that has a mediocre resume. No school is going to pay him $5 million per year or more. There is a limit to what a school will pay for a coach who has not proven he can cut it at a high profile program.
Mullen's value to State goes far beyond wins and losses. He has united the fan base, and created an energy and interest in the football program that never existed before. He sells tickets....but a big time program doesn't need their head coach to do that rah rah stuff. They need him to win games. Immediately.
So, unless State is in the playoffs this year, there is no way any school will outbid State for Mullen's services. State will pay what they need to. If they do make the playoffs then there is a chance someone will come along who can outspend MSU, but I do think MSU will be able to make it difficult for them.
All that said, I've been following this game way too long to try to figure out what a coach intends to do with his career. I don't know what motivates Mullen. He and his wife seem very happy in Starkville, and I know he takes pride in having built this program from scratch. But who knows? If the right situation comes along he may leave...
But Florida is probably not the right situation. He saw first hand what that job did to his mentor, and I will really be surprised if he goes back there.

Every time this topic comes up, Ole Miss fans are the first ones in.
Hell, I would be too if we continued to get dominated every year by their coach.

Great read. I am more concerned with keeping our assistants in place right now. You know the poachers will be after them.

First off, It's a pretty subtle hook, but I'll bite anyway. This has the makings to become a landmass thread, so lets just get the argument out of the way real quick.
I don't give a frick how much money we have. There is not a coach on this planet worth 7+ Million dollars per year.
I suppose you think Ole Miss would let Freeze walk for 4+?
I'd be willing to put money down that the SEC AD's already have a pretty solid figure that they know they're going to get.
Wealthy AD? I guess that depends on who you're comparing them to. Do you consider a top 25 revenue grossing program to be wealthy?

Some people prefer small towns.
Everything I have heard says at this point there are only a half dozen programs that he would leave for. We have no problem paying the man if it comes to that.

I wouldnt say "only" SEC school and I dont think losing games at another school would end his coaching career but I've thought this for a few years.
