Sad Truth About Recruiting

Guess how many players we've signed in 2012,2013,2014 that scored a 95 or higher in the 247 or 247comp rating?
Before I tell you how many we signed, let me tell you how many Alabama signed. They signed 44.
Bama has signed 44 players in the last 3 years that score a 95 or higher. 95 is considered a mid-high 4*.
Georgia has signed...
18.

And some of those players could be considered better than bamas players. Chris Conley, Bennett, amongst others didn't score that high and I would take over bama underclass man who did based on performance

Not a good time to be complaining about recruiting considering who we picked up lately and who were in the running for and that's just '15.

And?
Bama is unquestionably the best program in America and has been for the last 6 years. They have had a top 2 (and usually #1) recruiting class almost all of those years as well.
Obviously our recruiting numbers aren't what theirs are but guess what, nobody else's is either

The thing that's most amazing about this is how we've averaged a top 10 class over those years. It just shows how far and away Bama's recruiting has been since Saban started winning there. I don't think we should take this as a negative at all, especially with the way things look to be trending for us.

We are deftinetly heading in the right direction and we need to win a natty to really push us over the top. Heck an sec championship would be a good start

On that note, I was looking at 247 today and they have a "class calculator" where you can add and remove players and it re-scores your ranking with their algorithm. I added every single 5 star prospect we are still targetting and even considered Edoga flipping from USCw back to UGA, making sort of a "dream team" saying we would get every one of our current targets that are highly rated, and even added another 5 star receiver from GA that is currently a Tenn commit.... literally I made a dream team.
I pressed "calculate".
It took us to a solid #2.
It still didn't sniff what Bama already has committed on this very day.
That's a different level of recruiting.
It's not like most things where the top 3 or 4 or 5 are all marginally very close to each other. This is one of those things where they are waaaaaay out ahead. And it's not just this cycle as some kind of anomaly. It's every damn year.
It's really discouraging actually.
Hey, love the TT committment, the Stanley commitment, and the Ledbetter flip, it's been in awesome couple of days for us and we are now #5.
All that excitement is what got me looking into the details.
The details are sad. It's ridiculous.

As much hype as we dawg fans hoop up around Malcome Mitchell, realize that Bama has 5 Malcome Mitchell's.

A number two and we've won how many NCGs? I'd say that is pretty frickin' good to be up there. Just think how well we will do in recruiting once we win one.
No worries...

I hope you don't skim your pre-flight checklist the way you skim my posts.
We currently sit at #5.
Which is great...
But...
Re-read my last post where you skimmed "#2"

It was your last post I skimmed... Either way I still stand by what I said.

That is why we need to start cheating and wind up on probation....the best thing that could ever happen to a program...cheat enough to finish in the top 2 or 3 for a while but keep it just below the Southern Methodist levels of cheating and after being on top for 8 - 10 years suffer through 5 years of pain and then come roaring back. Auburn and Ohio State did it and USC will be back in a few years....Alabama has perfected the business model...all we have to do is repeat it....
That was sarcasm for any of you who don't know. Alabama is the premier program in the nation and they did get there by cheating for years and still do things that are ethically challenging and until those things are changed OR we follow suit we will be mired in mediocrity.

Yep, preaching to the choir from my perspective. The other reality slap is that out of those mostly top 10 UGA recruiting classes, the realized team on the field is significantly less than top 10 due to various forms of attrition. Maybe my view is biased due to being a UGA alumni/long time UGA fan, but it seems like we have a lot more attrition than most teams. I would love to see the before and after data that shows contribution on the field after recruiting; ours has to be among the worst in the nation in terms of high profile players who became busts.

We don't do any worse than most of our peers. A lot of players just don't work out. High profile players bust everywhere.
ETA: TBH, more than attrition a big problem is that there was a lot of dead weight recruited in the 2010 and 2013 classes. If a guy's not going to get it done, you're honestly better off if there is attrition in that case.

Honestly, I would like to think that is true but without data I find it hard to believe. One thing I do know is we did not have anywhere near a full roster compared to most teams for several years and that alone tells me we have not been over-signing enough to allow for our apparent high level of attrition. Granted that appears to be changing this year.

That has a lot more to do with Richt's signing policy than the attrition itself. I disagree with his policy and wish UGA would give itself more leeway.

Bama hands down sends kids packing at a faster rate than we do. If you're not progressing, Saban tells you go kick rocks and recruits someone to replace you.
