I definitely think Bama is Top 5, but IDK about #1. Personally, I think the top 3 is Michigan, Notre Dame, and USCw. Perhaps, USC and Bama being interchangeable. For the most part, good list!

Bama No. 1 is a joke. How many red and white teams are there? That is not iconic. Same goes for Penn State.

So you have to have a goofy color combination like purple and yellow in order to be considered iconic?
Posted on 8/17/14 at 1:24 pm to Gradual_Stroke
Yea, if you have an unoriginal form of red like every other team you don't make the list.

In no particular order, most iconic:
Mich
ND
PSU
UGA
Texas
OSU
So Cal
FSU
Bama
LSU

quote:Well, they're almost always very good, they almost always look the same, and I do have a bit of trouble finding other major college teams that look like them at a glance. Oklahoma, maybe, or Arkansas. The numbered helmets set them apart from those others, and the shade of red is pretty distinct- you won't mistake them for UGA or Miss St. Now, Miss St and A&M do require a bit of a second look.

quote:Are you serious? If you see that uniform, it's either a JV high school tryout, or there are people in the stands, and then it's obviously Penn St. There is no other choice, everybody else has something on the uniform.
Same goes for Penn State.

Norte Dame and it ain't even close.

Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State are what come to min first when thinking about truly classic uniforms IMO.

I'm surprised Colorado was left out.

Good list, I would add Iowa and UCLA (I know how you feel about script helmets but it works for UCLA IMO)

I can't tell you what UF's "normal" home and away unis are. White helmet? Orange helmet? No clue.
We have worn a white helmet maybe twice in 30 years. I think the vast majority of people know what the Gator helmet looks like.

Too many uniforms/combos to be "iconic"
Those aren't different combos, those are one-off Nike deals which have been done for nearly every school on the list.
I guess it just depends on how you define iconic. To me, it means what is widely recognizable and easily identifiable and certainly UF would fit there, as would the other Florida schools. Any school that has played significant amounts of time on national TV is going to have an iconic uniform.

You do realize that only us 40 plus year old guys care about iconic uniforms. Kids love the Oregon/Nike unis.

Good list only I might replace USC and Nebraska with Florida State and Oklahoma.

If you'll notice, it's a list of teams that have been very traditional.
It's impossible to be "iconic" and change your uniform every few years.
Uniform gimmicks are for scrub programs.

How is LSU iconic? They didn't start playing football until 2001.
