We are about to see an example of this when the Oakland Raiders use San Antonio as a leverage to get themselves a new stadium with suites either in Oakland, LA, or SA.

Just gimme a team in SA by hook or by crook. Tired of SA being used only as NFL leverage, tbh. High time the Alamo City had an NFL franchise to go along with the Spurs.

Agree with your overall point, though

At this point, anything can happen with the Raiders. Their stadium situation is a mess. The city of Oakland still owes 180 Million on their current stadium and they dont want to fund a new stadium. Then add the fact that the Athletics also have a dog in this fight and I doubt anyone can predict what happens with the Raiders and their new stadium.

Talks have gone all over the place with possible relocations including Los Angeles, San Jose, San Antonio, and even demolishing their current stadium and building a new stadium in its place. San Antonio will probably just get teased again at the end of the day.

The Oilers were my team in the NFL w/ the Cowboys 1b so to speak as a kid growing up. When they moved, I was literally shocked then pissed off. So I never embraced the Titans or the Texans. So now I'm a Cowboy and Raider fan (lived in California for 8 years as well) so now it's funny to see that Oakland might move to Texas soon. If they keep the Raider name and colors I might stick with 'em, if not frick 'em.

I think I had maybe 1 friend who stayed a fan of the Tennessee Oilers after the move.

I know there were others because they'd call into sports radio, but you know what sports radio callers sound like.

We already have a minor league baseball team by that name, actually.

"Gunslingers" was the name of the old SA USFL franchise.

There will never be a team with the name gun in it.

Those were dark years for Houston NFL fans. I felt lost because I didn't have a team to root for. There was a lot of hate for Bud Adams and the Titans. There was also the same Dallas hate that's always been there, so being a Cowboys fan was definitely not an option.

I forgot to mention we had Arena League football from 96-01 playing in the Summit. I went once and saw Solari playing for the Texas Terror.

Don't know. All I know is that the city of Dallas would never allow the Cowboys to leave the metroplex. Houston wouldn't pony up for a new stadium. They have no one to blame but themselves. But that's part of what makes Dallas better than Houston. (Winky face)

I realize your comment is tongue-in-cheek (sorta).
But a more accurate characterization of the scenario would've been, "Houston wouldn't be held hostage by Bud Adams."
Think UTex in the Big 12.
That's the kind of egomania with which we were dealing.
It was a toxic relationship.

The oilers move broke my young fandom of any NFL team forever. The whole idea of "Houston's team" died and I realized being loyal to an NFL team was just as dumb as being loyal to a specific tech company. They are private businesses, the only difference is apple won't demand I pony up tax dollars to build them a new store.

The only exceptions being the packers and the browns; both teams are in part or completely owned by the cities they reside in.
