The last four seasons of Phil Fulmer (2005-08) in Knoxville that began the decade long malaise, saw Tennessee go 17-15 in conference and 29-21 overall.

This was followed by a series of poor hires that may only be ending now with Butch Jones.

The last four seasons in Gainesville, starting with Urban Meyer's burnout through the Bill Muschamp era, the Gators have gone 17-15 in conference and 30-21 overall.

Is the Gator decline beginning, ending, or in mid-stream?

And for better or worse, will Muschamp set the course for the next decade?

I don't think so. They have too much talent to enter a decline like that, and Boom can coach up a defense so they have a chance to be in every ballgame. They just have to figure out how the heck they can fix their offense..

They are a solid hire from turning it around overnight. Muschamp's main focus should be the offense. This is the last strike for him.

Hell no. Foley won't play around. To much wealth of talent in the state as well

Fulmer was a Krispy-Kreme-eatin sumbitch but he's clearly the GOAT compared to their recent hires in the modern era

Too much talent in the state of Florida to keep them down for long.

Nah. The state has way more high school talent than Tennessee does. They'll turn it around.

Sounds like an honest question not a troll so my honest answer with some homerism is that many people will be suprised with how UF turns it around this season. I'm not predicting an Auburn type year but those that think Florida football will stay down based on one losing season don't understand the overall environment of the athletic department. Foley will absolutely not allow that to happen and Boom is on notice. This year UF is going to have a kick arse defense and an offense that will be able to put significant numbers on the board. Three loses is possible but with all cylinders clicking on both sides of the ball we could win the East.

I just don't see how that offense is going to be good. I hope so though, football is better when Florida is a contender.

That is the big unknown. It could go either way . On one hand we could have another poor hire at OC and at worst , if we stay healthy, have a very pedestrian year ala 2012. On the other hand if Roper turns things around and plays to Driskel's strength in the spread then we have the talent and ability to win.

I'll say this I haven't been this excited about an upcoming football season in many years.

already started a thread about the depreciation of muschamp and yes he is on his way to coaching in little football league soon if he dumps any laughers to lesser opponents

Never sleep on a Big 6 team.

Every year could be the year they turn it around... it has always been this way.

I'm just afraid Roper is being asked to do too much. Everyone seems to think this will be a quick fix and easy transition, but it reminds me of when Auburn got the DC from the Atlanta Falcons a couple years ago. He was supposed to revitalize the defense and turn the whole thing around, and he was from the NFL so what could go wrong?

They went 3-9, 0-8 that year and he was fired.

Talked to a Florida fan yesterday who was so depressed about the Gators' prospects for this season that he said "I may not watch a single Florida game this year."

I said, "But y'all got Driskel back."

He responded, "He'll get hurt again because we have linemen who block each other."
