Electricity
Lights
Phones
Cars
Planes
Television
Computers
Internet
iPhones
I believe Americans invented most of the major stuff that were game changers.
A British guy invented antibiotics. That's kind of a big deal. Plus Scotland cloning a sheep.

Thank you. I would probably rank the Germans behind the US on inventions.

I think your premise should probably be, more monumental or life changing inventions
Also, a lot of stuff, Americans just made it much better or mainstream, like the car.

Read a book called Catching up or Leadin the Way by Yong Zhao. He has some great theories related to our education system. The unfortunate trend that he points out is that we are killing our edge as we move to a more standardized test dependent system like China. Meanwhile, China is trying to move to a more egalitarian less structures system to capture our creative edge.

What's your point? You sound like you're bragging about other people's smarts.

It's just the result of a number of factors coming together. The scale of our society, its wealth, widespread access to education, the robustness of our economy and so on. The Germans are probably damn close.

Americans invent things and then the Japanese perfect them. It's been that way for a hundred years.

Not really. You can thank American, W Edward Deming, for the Total Quality Management plan he tried to sell to American business, but was rejected. So,he took it to Japan, after WW11 and the rest is history.
