Get over what? The Nazi thing? Why should we?
Our uniforms are nothing like the Nazis, many good Aggies(and other SEC heros) died defeating the Nazi's, and Godwin's Law is the only thing that prevents EVERY political conversation from turning into complete shite.
So I plan to not get over it.

You are usually pretty reasonable, but this is very outlandish. Johnny dominated every college sports segment.
My point is that Johnny made the news for his histrionics. This summer we have felons. It's worse in that respect.

Godwin’s Law is an internet adage that is derived from one of the earliest bits of Usenet wisdoms, which goes “if you mention Adolf Hitler or Nazis within a discussion thread, you’ve automatically ended whatever discussion you were taking part in.”

The idea being that if you have to run to the Nazi's as ANY sort of comparison, you are essentially exposing that your grasp of history (and probably politics) is shite because NOTHING in history is truly comparable to what the Nazi's did.

All arguments on the internet eventually come to a point where an inappropriate comparison to nazis or the holocaust is made. Such comparison is an admission of being wrong and ends said argument.

Nothing in all of history?
-Not the Muslim Crusade (not the 2nd Crusade to retake Jerusalem)?
-Not Stalinist Russia?
-Not the French Revolution and rise of Napoleon?
-Not what happened in Rwanda? Sierra Leone?

Nazis? Really? You're comparing A&M to a regime who murdered their own people and anyone else who didn't fit their definition of the perfect being and one that hundreds of Aggies gave their lives removing from power?

1) We acknowledge that there is a legal situation playing out.
2) We are all going to have to wait for the process to play out and that timing is something that no media member has control over.
3) We have not named any names, or alluded to anyone. Nor are we going to speculate on who may be involved.
4) If what we have learned from credible sources is true, this legal situation could involve a Texas A&M football player. Obviously for the player involved, we hope it's untrue.
At this time, this is all we know and all we are going to say until more information is available -- good or bad.

The Nazi thing is getting old, the talking heads on Fox or MSNBC call someone a NAZI 5 times a day now. Until someone else kills 10 million plus there are no other Nazis.
So lets get back to Summer fun. Who is it? Presser at 4pm?

A&M fans= my new big brother (Bama) is much much better than my old big brother (Texas).
Back to talking about your team's thugs and having the A&M nazi fan base cry about mean LSU fans discussing it.

Mass genocides aren't all that uncommon, do some research.

Sure lets derail the thread.
quote:
-Not the Muslim Crusade (not the 2nd Crusade to retake Jerusalem)?
No, not at all. I mean yes the first crusade was anti-semitic like the Nazi's, but essentially it was subjugating and conquering a foreign people (like many wars). The unique thing about Nazi's is that they mass killed people from their own community.
If you are looking for a religions comparison I personally think the Spanish inquisition is closer.
quote:
-Not Stalinist Russia?
No, no really. Stalinist Russia did kill a large number of countrymen like the Nazi's, but the goal was to wipe out political opposition and not a certain ethnic group. The machinery for killing - camps, secrete police, etc.- were similiar to the Nazi's, but the truth is killing people for political purposes is hardly unique. Wiping out a race of people because of made up stereotypes and scapegoating is. Same reason why Pol Pot isn't a good comparison either.
quote:
-Not the French Revolution and rise of Napoleon?
Not at all, furthest one from the Nazi's actually. The Reign of Terror targeted the elite, not a persecuted underclass, and was a much smaller scale. There are some parallels between Hitler's rise and Napoleon's rise, but the two men left a completely different impact on the world.
quote:
-Not what happened in Rwanda? Sierra Leone?
Sierra Leone is not even close. Sierra Leone is an example of what happens when an area of the world has weak government structures protecting a valuable natural resource. Sierra Leone is super sad, but different from the Nazi's.
Rwanda on the other hand is probably one of the best comparable examples in history. The only real difference is the Nazi's had a bigger scale. I think if you compare something related to the Rwanda genocide to the Nazi's you are not violating Godwin's law.
ANY of these things of course is closer in comparison to the Nazi's then students in a ROTC program. But the world is full of mouth breather who learned their history from a channel with the same name, so some mental shortcuts of Nazis=bad is to be expected. These shortcuts should also be RAed.
