As much as I want the violent crime to stop, what can Sumlin actually do? He obviously can't follow all of them around (or have a staff to do it) 24/7. If the meatheads want to commit crimes, they're gonna commit crimes. Anybody who thinks Sumlin should recruit higher-character guys is dreaming. Unless a HS kid already has a criminal record how could he know?
Agreed.

If this turns out to be what everybody seems to think it is, I'm gonna really start disliking the great state of Louisiana.

I think it is more about some active mentoring that will help these guys realize what they can accomplish by just using their heads combined with a policy that leaves no doubt this kind of crap just won't fly.
I know better than most that sometimes you just have to learn your lessons the hard way, but I have to believe that there is more the program could be doing to groom these guys to be better people and better Ags.

So how does Hamm know more than the Bryan PD, or are they not releasing his name to inform the staff first?
I'm sorry, but if this is two more players, these athletes are getting this real god-like feeling and a growing immaturity very quickly.
I graduated from A&M in 2009 and the only major issue I can remember any player having is Yemi Babalola and that wasn't a huge loss. Every other player I had a class with or hung out with was so down to earth and never seemed like they had this sort of immature attitude that is spreading like wildfire in college sports

Of course you never really know what another person is going to do, but it's gotta be rare for a guy to go tpos overnight. His recruiter would be talking to the kid, his parents/guardian, teammates, and coaches, right? Somewhere in all that has got to be a clue that leads to more digging. Maybe you take a few kids like that if you think you can keep them on the straight and narrow, but there's obviously more than a few.

Brazos County Jail website just crashed

I'd rather have speedy than a key defensive player

I don't know which approach is worse. 247 and Hamm or TA cutting all threads on the topic all together.

TA isn't allowing speculation until names are named. Rightfully so because no one knows anything

Haven't read TA but gotta say, personally think what Hamm did is kind of BS. If it's not Speedy he just allowed Speedy to get thrown under the bus pretty bad today, along with the state of Louisiana. All so he could prove he knew something. Report it or don't. Don't put innocent people under the bus just to stroke your own ego. Much less the fact that it only makes the entire meltdown in the meantime worse.
Hopefully it turns out to be a non-issue.

pretty much agree with this. And this comes on the heels of his major frickup regarding Evans.
I don't like to criticize because people make mistakes and a large part of his living comes from breaking news first so errors will happen. But in reading both threads, it really annoys me that he didn't own up to either of these as mistakes and basically doubled down on both issues by saying he was right to post what he did.
I mean, ffs, he all but admitted late in that thread that he doesn't know anything more than what is in the release. You just don't post: "Hate to say it, will be VERY significant" if for all you know this is two randoms. Truly brutal handling of this no matter what the actual news turns out to be.

I don't mean to derail, but what did he do in regards to Evans?
Posted on 7/24/14 at 7:56 pm to tmc94
It's amateurism at it's very best. Hope he's out on the street sooner than later
