I think they did take him to jail... he just wasn't booked. Issued the citation and released.

Oh Ok. I thought they just wrote him a ticket on site and he went on his way like a speeding ticket.

I think in this case, by "jail" they mean "prison".

No. He was issued the citation at the scene and released.

Also, for others in this thread grams =/= ounces.

This is a minor offense in almost every state. Had this happened in Alabama, he likely would have been offered a diversion program that if completed would have the charge dismissed. He could then get it expunged from his record.
