SEC is the strongest conference with the most exposure in spite of its location in Bham. I dont think it matters.
Texas is full of sidewalkers that follow the hype behind a school over anythign else. Alot of that is related to the players rather than the school. I know alot of people that were following ATM all becasue of JFF. They couldnt stand ATM but loved JFF. he's gone. 5 years ago Texas ran the state in large part becasue of VY/Colt. ATM is doing well but that could all change. Surveys are shite.
Hell if Baylor wins the Big 12 and goes to the playoff, you gotta think that would be a pretty big story and generate alot of casual fan interest in their program. If ATM struggles this year(very possible) then yall will be an afterthought.
The Houston v Dallas comment is lame.
I do think that the SEC media days could stand to benefit to move around the conference. But I highly doubt that the SEC offices would move to a new city just to get some more reporters to do stories about them. We have the leading sports brand partnering with us to do a 24 hour channel/daily radio show. You think the SEC is worried about Houston Chronicle reporters???
Your right Houston is big and getting more and more transplants. The SEC is not new and people have been aware of it. Now that ATM is in the SEC the exposure will grow. What else do we need to do? By your logic we should move the SEC offices to the D.C. area if UVA/Va Tech join. The D.C. media market is bigger than Houston. (less messicans that devote their attention to NFL/Soccer)

I do think that the conference offices would be better suited in a major city though, be it Houston, Atlanta, or New Orleans moreso than Birmingham. Even Houston's second Airport (Hobby) is busier than Bham and Atlanta is the busiest in the US. Access matters.
1. Greatest conference in the history of college athletics
2. Members poised to become some the wealthiest schools in the country
3. unprecedented equitable distribution,
4. centrally located,
5. 7 NC in a row
But the Conference headquarters would be "better suited" somewhere else..... just glad your not running the show

The OP was "If not Bham, where?" Of course the SEC is fine with the offices staying in Bham and the location of the offices is not a critical factor. People will come to the SEC wherever it is because it is the SEC.
The question though is IF you are going to move where would provide the most benefit. To me that is Houston or Atlanta with New Orleans likely being 3rd choice. Houston would be interesting because then you would have the SECN in Charlotte, the SECCG in Atlanta, the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, and then the SEC offices in Houston. Thus spreading the exposure of the conference throughout.

What does any of this have to do with the B'ham? The reason the SEC won 7 MNC's is because it's HQ is in B'ham...really?

That is funny -- heckfire man! The SEC offices could have been in Hahira GA (home of the King Frog) and we would have still won those MNC!
Its about moving forward, not the past. You have to continually position yourself for success.

Atlanta. If it's good enough for the conference championship game, it's good enough for the home office.

So all the SEC administrators now fly coach to SEC Media Days and that's your pitch for moving the offices?
For the record, I'm all for it moving to Nashville if it meana I get to quit hearing the embarrassingly pathetic whining from people about it being in Birmingham. Forget 65 years of history and unprecedented growth where it is, let's move it for the sake of moving it.
P.S. I am on board with moving SEC Media Days to Atlanta. The same areas utilized during SEC Championship Week and the SEC basketball tournament make a lot of sense for Media Days.

Anywhere else - to get it out of Birmingham

"Alabama is 4.6 mil"
Where did the other 250,000 Alabama residents go since the last annual census.
"Birmingham (metro) is more Augusta (750,000) than Atlanta"
That explains the 250,000 missing Alabama residents in your post. Apparently most of them migrated to metro Augusta and inflated Augusta's less than 600,000 metro all the way to the 750,000 you magically gave them. I love wild hyperbole and exaggeration to make a point.

I say the greater Atlanta metro area needs to become its own state. No one in Atlanta claims the state of Georgia anyway and we already know Atlanta is basically its own state compared to the rest of Georgia.
I'm all for it.
I'm all for it.

This is true. Atlanta is it's own entity apart from Georgia. Atlanta is the Southeast's version of the Los Angeles area except that it has even less of an identity than L.A. Atlanta is a sprawling bloated soulless monster of a metro full of transplants with no identity. It's why it's considered one of the worst sports cities of all the major cities. The Braves are the only team with mass appeal because they've been a regional team much like the St Louis Cardinals are to a lot of Midwesterners. It's one of the reasons I have infinitely more respect for places like New Orleans and St Louis when it comes to sports cities. No doubt Atlanta is important but the place has absolutely no soul. New Orleans has more soul and character in a 10 block area than Atlanta has in it's entire metro. The rest of Georgia is no more special than Alabama or any other SEC state but they ride Atlanta's coattails. Georgiano have become so arrogant that they'very resorted to touting Augusta is some great metropolis.

Not Atlanta. Nashville is mid conference. It would likely be the perfect place.

I just don't get the strong desire to move the HQ. Why does it really matter where it is located? The SEC is the best it has ever been and the best any conference has ever been. Bham has an airport like any other city, it's centrally located, and the cost of operating there is cheaper than ATL, Nashville, or just about any other major city in the South. If you are going to move it due to fear of bias, don't move it to another SEC city or you face the same issue? Move it to Charlotte where it can better coordinate with the SEC Network.

4.6 mil est today based on United Nations data
AL data
The census numbers came in at 4.8 , but AL is the 36 fastest growing state and above estimates your current population, I have know idea where they went? I don't live there, thank God!
Birmingham 212,000 and Augusta 195,000 Suburban stats
Both have metro areas, outside their city limits
And Augusta's includes the MSA ( which includes Aiken, SC) at 590,000 ( I must have typed the 750 by mistake) MSA. I do not exaggerate on facts.
The point still remains , that the entire state of AL is smaller than the Atlanta Metro area , which is a top 10 tv market and 11 largest population center in the US.
Atlanta is an extremely diverse city and a magnet for Alumni from not only all SEC school alumnae, but schools from across the country, Birmingham has not one advantage to being the home of the SEC. And just like the NFL offices moved to NY , one day the SEC offices will have to move to a city that can provide it the advantages it needs.

You point is valid . Not that I would want a state of Atlanta. But growing up in South Ga. There us definitely a cultural difference and way of life once you get below Macon.
This extends to around Jax Fl to Gainesville, FL. Then everything south of that is just plain different.

I get that Atlanta is larger than Birmingham. Tell me specifically how the SEC HQ being moved from Bham to ATL makes the SEC a more successful and more profitable entity. Take into consideration the cost of uprooting from a place you have been for decades. Will more people watch SEC football games because of where the HQ is located?

"Birmingham is 212,000, Augusta is 195,000"
So? Lowly Montgomery is 202,000 and isn't close to Augusta and is nowhere even remotely close to Birmingham. Mobile (metro) at 600,000 (based on same criteria you judge Augusta) is as important as Augusta and has a port as big and important as Savannah to boot. Heck, Atlanta city proper was barely over 450,000 not long ago. City limit population means jacks### when gauging an area.
"I don't live there thank God"
I feel the same way about Georgia. I'd far sooner move to North Carolina (Charlotte or several other areas) or Tennessee (preferably Nashville) than live around Georgia rednecks or transplanted Yankees both of which act like arrogant pricks to people moving there.
I'm fully aware that metro Atlanta is bigger than the state of Alabama. Metro Birmingham has more people than a handful of entire states too. That doesn't make it better than those places though.
Birmingham is the 40th largest TV market which makes it larger than one of the cities you've suggested it should move to (New Orleans).
Atlanta is large and diverse but it shouldn't automatically get the SEC headquarters because it is a terrible sports town. Nashville is a MUCH better city for the headquarters than Atlanta if it should end up moving.

Probably not.
But I really do question some of the things handled at the offices. It just seems, there are a lot of questionable decisions that seem to favor the AL schools. And don't get hysterical about it, I'm not a conspiracy guy. But 99% of fans of the other 12 schools all question it too and the inside joke REC comments , lead others to wonder as well.
Look at some of the complaints without the Crimson glasses and see if they make sense, or at least aren't questionable.
I'm just saying , Birmingham is a small city and most of the community there has tied to either Auburn or Alabama, which understandable , but it's also easy to understand why the rest of us felt there is a degree of bias.
If the offices were in a larger city the employment pool and also the draw to hire the best in the business to your company , which is what the SEC is, would be greater and more diverse.
