Does anyone that is knowledgeable about football really think saban is a great coach?

My previous post on the subject:

Anyway, saban will never be anywhere close to one of the best. He is an above average coach and that is about it. Great defensive mind, nothing offensively and sorta a game manger on the sideline.

He was about a .500 coach for years at Michigan state and with the dolphins. And his first year at bama.

He is an excellent program builder at the college level but has also done that at two schools where anyone can win at. Especially at bama with the highest player and coach bankroll to work with anywhere.

Give him equal talent to his opponent, his old school conservative style wins at about a .600 clip. Above average, far from special.

Saban is absolutely a great coach. Recruiting IS an aspect of coaching after all.

Could you guys imagine if Gus and Saban had the exact same talent to coach and then play a game against each other?

I would expect Gus's team to win by 2-3 TDs.

Spurrier vs Saban in the same scenario would be the same result. 2-3 TD win by OBC.

You think Pat Dye was the GOAT and Saban has coached longer and is far more accomplished.

Being a head coach is so much more than playcalling (which is why so many great playcallers fail as HC's and stay coordinators.)

He pays Saban the ultimate compliment: He copies him.

“We talk on a pretty regular basis,” says Belichick. “If I ask Nick a question and he says, ‘Well, this is how we do it,’ then I usually just cut to where he is and take that shortcut and say, ‘Okay, we’re going to do it this way.’ I know that he’s already gone through all the stages of thinking it through, and I would rather just get to the stage that he’s at rather than waste the time figuring that I’m going to end up at that same point anyway.”

Using this phrase is a pet peeve of mine, ESPECIALLY after the suffering through the Hallman years and Bama suffering with Mike Shula.
