UTex has a contract with ESPN/the LHN.
Where they go, their network goes.

Nothing like being in the stadium while the fans boo Garret Gilbert off the field.
I know you have a "respect" of some sort for ut Austin, but your time thinking it's "real" is time wasted.
The fan base (old money donors) has money, but many of the newer graduates aren't putting their money back into their university like most large schools are. Then again, a degree in liberal arts doesn't leave much scratch for the liberals in Austin to play with.

Nothing can truly destroy the SEC unless it is litigation.
Players get the right to get paid for appearing on TV, etc. Forces the players into employee/union type arrangements vs. students.
All college sports would die (see Europe and the rest of the world) and club teams not tied to schools would arise.
