Just curious if the A&M defense doesn't show significant improvement in 2014, could Snyder be on the chopping block? Im not saying he should.... but wondering where the fan base stands.

With the size of Sumlin's salary, he can't afford to keep dead weight. If Snyder has a bad season, Kev will be pressured to fire him.

DC at ohio state when they won the national championship... failed as a HC at marshall... but was solid at USF as a DC. currently DC at A&M.

I think he needs to show significant improvement.

He wasn't the DC at tOSU when they won the national championship, he was just the linebackers coach.

Sumlins salary ain't got shite to do with it.
Why are so you aggsessed?

see, to me, Sumlin's large salary (and buyout) would make me think he's got less incentive to fire someone he believed in (assuming sumlin believes snyder can get the job done).... KS is almost unfire-able.

Exactly, Sumlin won't be forced to go anywhere any time soon. He's got years of good grace after having us competitive in year 1 of the SEC.

not only can he not be forced out, he has full control of his personnel.
2015 could be a huge year for A&M... but breaking in a (potential) new DC isn't ideal.

I think the question is moot. They HAVE to be much better than last year. If they defy all odds and are still ranked 100+ in most categories, I still don't think so. The defense is still mostly young. If they still suck in 2015 after sucking in 2014, though... yeah. A change will be in order.

Are you kidding? This is a board for football discussion, that's all I'm doing.
And you can bet your booty that if you're paying Kevin $5 million a year, he won't be allowed to keep assistants that underperform.

you're right... mark dantoni was DC... shoulda remembered that.

Paying someone that kind of money says "you are worth it" meaning he has "Power and control" means he calls the shots. He hasn't been questioned on 1 hire yet, and I doubt your aggsessed arse would know when it would start.

That's not why he got a raise. He got a raise so he wouldn't leave for USC. It's pretty well documented.
And not to get into a slap fight, but he hasn't done anything in his career to make anyone think he is worth $5 million per year.

Sumlin has job security b/c of his significant buyout, and the fact he's had a very good transition (20 wins in two years) to the SEC... he's got some leeway among aggies it would seem. to me, that means he's got less pressure to make moves like firing a DC.
i'm not saying he won't be under a ton of pressure... but no more than any other coach at one of the top six or seven teams in this conference.

So we gave a coach a raise to insure that he didnt leave for more money?
Have any other programs thought of this before? Because it sounds pretty fricking brilliant.
