It's pretty challenging for airlines to be profitable these days. The number of seats that have to be sold to make a flight profitable is eye-opening

People sure looked a lot happier 50 years ago.

The tickets for that flight in the 1960s probably cost close to what tickets in that modern day picture cost.

I'm always curious to see which picture garners most of the discussion. I have to admit, I didn't think it'd be the 747 picture from this thread.

I'm an aviation nut, so I liked the nostalgic picture. I used to know someone that worked for Pan Am in the 70's and early 80's at the Worldport at JFK airport. He had some very interesting stories from back when security was very lax even on international flights. I had a few of my own from my days working in the industry.

I used to work in the industry myself, still love it and fascinated by it.
I flew through T3 at JFK a few months ago, it was sad to see a pile of rubble and know that it was the remains of the Worldport.

Huge aviation fan, and I've always liked seeing them.
Gonna miss those planes when they go

According to this, that image is from a mock up. Looks pretty damn wide to me - anyone know if they were actually produced like this?

I also hated to see T3 reduced to rubble. But I guess you can't preserve everything. The new T4 expansion will be nice with Delta moving their entire mainline and regional operations there.
JFK is a fascinating airport. I remember in the summer of 1996
JFK had over 100 airlines serving it. Many of those carriers are gone today.

That makes sense. I thought it was odd that the cabin was in a 2-4-3 configuration.
