On a side note, why does LSU call yellow gold?
quote:
Upon his arrival in 1893, Coates noticed the lack of athletics and hastily helped assemble a football team to play Tulane that year. When searching for colors, he went to Reymond's on the corner of Third and Main in Baton Rouge to buy colored ribbons to adorn the uniforms. The store had plenty of purple and gold but the other Mardi Gras color, green, had not arrived.

Yall look better with the blue tops than white.

Just found out the last time LSU lost a game in the Purple Jerseys was at Florida in 2000.

The NCAA made LSU wear purple at home. LSU wanted to wear white at home and petitioned the NCAA to change the rule - instead LSU has to get permission from all opponents to allow LSU to wear white at home and opponents have to wear their normal home attire in Tiger Stadium. As a result LSU still has to wear white on the road as well so outside of a few non conference games in purple LSU predominately wears white.
It's similar to the USC UCLA annual game, both teams want to wear their colors in that game and NCAA mandates one team has to wear their home gear.

Has LSU ever worn gold on gold?
That would be sweet.
Beautiful uniform alert.

We like home gaames and therefore have a preference for the white jersey.

SC/UCLA have worn their home unis together recently, now UF/UGA are doing that this year, IIRC

We lose when we wear purple. Miles knew that when he came to LSU so he only allows his team to wear the purple vs rent-a-wins. If you look at LSU's record wearing purple vs white prior to Miles's tenure, you will see a huge difference in winning percentage.

Yes, they have. In the 40's. I know for sure that LSU wore gold on gold in the 1944 Orange Bowl vs. A&M.
One additional benefit of always wearing white is that it sets LSU apart from all the other schools, particularly the ones that change their look multiple times per season. LSU is instantly recognizable because of the white jersey look. We choose this particular thing to be the special thing about our uniform and it is t-i-g-h-t.

I always found it cool that the away teams get to wear their home unis in tiger stadium.
