Who here does it often?

I'm feeling a tent camping trip coming up.

Want to do some fishing, sleep under the stars, drink beer, no shower for a weekend, nice rock bottom clear water swimming hole type of place.

Best tent to buy? Would it be better to rent a tent?

I never use tents....I haven't been tent camping in 10 years....but I'm wanting to go again...hell, I may not even remember how to put one together.

Tents are cheap, buy an airmatress with a vehical power jack for inflating.

Petit Jean was always one of my favorite places to camp at just to hike to the waterfall.

I've already got an air mattress from nights I'd sleep at the store when things were rough on the home front.

What kind of fishing is at Petit Jean? Want to just take my ultra light rig...no big fish, fishing....cook the fish whole over the fire is what I'm looking at....living off the land...pooping in the woods

There are some places on the Mulberrry that are nice, swimming should be good too with all the rain we've been having. I go to Redding usually once a year.

Catfish, some pools have crappie, small bass, and perch as well, but mainly catfish.

A hook, bobber, and something stinky like chicken liver should work. Catfishin is the best fishin, besides catfish being fricking delicious, it is a fishin more inline with beer drinkin since you do not have to cast your pole constantly.

You could always rent a canoe and put in up around Oark and fish as you float down the river.

Catfish is nasty Dale.

The best eating is crappie, by far.

If you want bream you could just use a cane pole and worms.

Wrong.

The catfish out of the mulberry is whiter and cleaner, like store bought, but with a better taste. Catfish out of the Arkansas river is darker for some reason.

They are hard to find on the Mulberry, but we've stumbled on them and caught a huge mess of them a few times.

My wife and her family have gotten me into camping within the last five years. I never went camping before that so I'm thankful that they have always been campers. We have a Coleman 4 person tent that costs around 80 bucks from walmart but some friends of ours found an off-brand tent with the same layout at Target for 50ish.

Someday, I'd love to have my own tailgate with a pop up camper and satellite tv so I can watch the Razorbacks and other CFB games at a campsite over a lake.

If you buy a tent get the new pop up tents...will save you a ton of hassle and cuss words. Go up in like 45 seconds..

Camping is great--used to do a lot of it prior to being married (including with my wife prior to us being married). We've done all kinds from tent camping to motorhome camping and it's all good. Would like to get back into it someday.

A lot of what you need hinges on where you want to go and what you want to do. As for tents I've had everything from the small ones to the larger multi-person tents. If you are back packing obviously weight and size become a factor with respect to all camping gear.

In the Fayetteville area Pack Rat, Lewis & Clark & Cabela's offer good stuff. One of my favorite tents was a Kelty Switchback two person tent which I've had for a long time. North Face and Eureka! have solid products as well. I've also ordered items from Campmor which has good stuff. LINK

I came across a Coleman pop up tent last night and was curious what the difference was.

Not having to deal with putting it together is the difference.

"Yeah, I need some tent poles"

"I can't sell you just poles, they come with the tent"

"Ok then give me a tent"

"What kinda tent do you want?"

"The one with the most poles"

The Mulberry has good camping and fishing, take light gear with small jigs rebel craws and the like to catch Bream, google eye and small mouth.

Kings river has good camping and better fishing, great small mouth. I like to use a jig and pig there to eliminate catching all the small fish. There is a length requirement on small mouth here.

The Buffalo is up now and the small mouth are biting.

Walmart tents are cheap and will last a long time if you only camp once or twice a year. The camp cots by Coleman are the shite, spend the $70 on one of these, way better than the air mattress.

Been twice this summer and heading to the Spring River next weekend...plenty of Browns to be caught on that river...

As mentioned, some of the newer tents are instant tents and go up easy...we also take 3 popups and have a "staging" tent to ward off those that want to camp right beside us...

U should be able to get all u need at Academy or Wal-mart...no need to hit the high price stores

Kind of random, but I recently bought an 8 man tent for $70 at Aldi of all places. Used it at Wakarusa this past weekend and it worked great, didn't get wet all weekend

I don't have any experience with pop up tents but I do have some pop up deer blinds that I have fallen asleep in a few times and rested quite comfortably.

I would probably recommend something other than a deer blind for heavy duty camping though.
